Trek WSD Bikes
I am thinking of getting my wife a Trek 7.6 WSD bike or a 7.7, 7.9 which is not a WSD. I looked around the Trek website and really don't find an explanation of what the WSD (Women's Special Design) actually gives you? Does anyone know what the differences are. I really and so does she like the 7.9 but they are not offered with the WSD.

You referring to the FX series bikes? Might want to repost in the Hybrid forum.
My wife has a 2.1 WSD road bike. For hers it was a different geometry frame, narrower and shorter drop handlebars, shim wedges in the shifters, and a more feminine designed saddle. More than anything else it was the *only* 47cm (Wife is 4'11") that she came even close to fitting on and 43cm was the next step down and too small. So essentially it made the difference between owning a road bike and not owning one. As to the FX series differences probably better to ask in the hybrid forum as to the specific differences. Trek also has some info at: http://www.trekbikes.com/images/wome...df/bikefit.pdf |
WSD bikes have a geometry that is more adapted to the general physique of a woman.
This likely means things like a shorter reach due to women (generally) having shorter arms and longer legs. |

Have her get sized in a chop, then try out a few WSD and regular bikes, and pick one she likes. WSD may work, may not, obviously not the solution for ALL women.
