riding with gout

I know this is a weird question but do any of you suffer from gout? I get it in my feet and it hurts to put a shoe on and even walk. I can't image cycling with it, do any of you have a remedy to lesson the pain? I missed a week of riding because of it and now it's snowing. I got a Garmin 500 for christmas and haven't been able to test it out. GOUT SUCKS.

i get turf toe a lot during the wrestling season, it annoys the **** out of me, but somehow i am able to forget about it when i get on the bike. maybe ice it right before and take a light pain killer and just try to ride the trainer. im sorry, i dont no how painful the gout it is, but im assuming its worst than turf toe.

Yeah, I have it. When you get an attack, listen to your doctor. No, when I have an attack, I can't ride, or sometimes walk. The attacks usually only last a couple days, though. There are plenty of websites that have info on nutrition and how that can help offset/delay gout attacks. But, once you get an attack, nutrition won't help.

I've had both. Yes, gout is much worse. During an attack, can't even let air touch the toe/foot or it hurts.

yeah, turf toe only really hurts during hard activities, not activities like walking.

Ice is the last thing you want for treating gout because it will cause more uric acid crystallization.

When I feel it coming on, I (a) get on my medication ASAP, (b) drink lots of fluids (water, tea, and milk), (c) skip a meal or two, (d) eat cherries, and (e) catch up on my sleep. But if I can get my shoes on, I ride, but I turn it down a notch. I find the exercise good for the circulation that helps me eliminate it.

Over in the 50-plus section there was an extensive discussion of gout a few months back. There was a lot of good advice coming up.
