Am I chasing ghosts?
New Kestrel Carbon bike. Had full Rival put on at a lbs I trust. When they took off the 105 group and installed the rival, I asked them to take apart the fork to make sure everything was assembled correctly (it came from Jenson USA). Picked up the bike and brought it home. I noticed a rubbing sound when I turn the handler bars to the right, but not the left. I ruled out the cables, so I brought it back to have them check out the noise. The guy who has owned the shop for 20+ years took apart the fork and couldn't find anything wrong inside. He said it the the top of the fork rubbing where its inserted in the frame (see pic). He said the tolerance must just be off a bit. I asked and he said it wasn't going to hurt anything and I was fine. The shop deals in specialized bikes, both mtn and road, and as far as I can tell, they know what their talkin about.
I know things can't be perfect, but I am considering taking it to another shop I deal with to check out the fork.
Should I just ride it can forget about it? Am I being ocd crazy?

In Soviet Russia, ghost chases you.
As long as you trust this shop, despite bringing in an Internet-bike, it should be fine. Can't hurt to get a second opinion, especially if it gets worse over time.

Depending on your headset model, it may be missing an ultra thin plastic shim. The units I've seen that use these tend to have them on the top as opposed to the bottom. Older headsets sometimes had plastic rings that circled the bearing retainer in order to hold it in place better. They would work without them but they always seemed quieter with them. Hard to say....but a second opinion couldn't hurt.

sorry to hear about your issues w/ your kestrel, but I think 55/rad is onto something. I remember when I put mine together ther are 2 very thin spacers included w/ the headset. I put one on the top bearing race and one on the bottom race. I went by this, check it out.

on a side note, what's going on with the OP's front brake? It looks like it's spaced away from the front fork. I don't think i've ever seen that before.

On aside note, it looks like whoever did your cables did a really crappy job. They should look like this.

I don't think I would ignore a noise coming from a new bike when turning the bars with no pressure on anything. If there is something wrong and you don't get it fixed it could result in problems down the road that will not be covered under warranty if they are user error / non kestrel shop error.
