No riding in DFW today

20 degrees outside, 40 mph winds, -3 windchill. And then there is the 1 inch layer of ice on the roads covered by a dusting of snow. The Packers and Steelers should feel right at home.

sosojeffcc 02-01-11 10:45 AM

yeah it's definitely bad here. Working from the hotel today so I dont' have to deal with the roads haha.

jr59 02-01-11 11:45 AM

htfu

lol!

be careful out there

I'm planning to take the Worksman cargo trike out for a spin this evening. Advantages using it are stability on slick surfaces and the ability to use my hiking boots and mittens instead of gloves and riding shoes. We shall see how it goes.

hesmysnowman 02-01-11 02:06 PM

I rode to work today in DFW. Just took off the wheels, put my feet on the frame and hoisted a sail. Covered a couple miles in just minutes. Anyone know where I can get a frame painted?

I'm down near Houston and let me just say. IT SUCKS OUTSIDE! This is what it must feel like to live up north every day!

rkelley23 02-01-11 02:48 PM

I bet Mr Jones is hating this

I moved away from Dallas 2 1/2 years ago to lovely Raleigh NC. Today we are having mid 50's , the air is calm and there are a few high clouds but definitely riding weather. During the 30 years that I lived in Dallas before coming here I experienced a few cold days like what everyone is currently going thru. Hopefully by next weekend it may be in the 50's or low 60's. With road racing season here it is really tough to go out in this type of weather.

Not entirely. We spent five years in Colorado (Fort Collins, the north side fo the state). You have snow, but you don't normally have ice storms and sleet. Basically, anything that falls out of the sky between October and about April is frozen.

cruelster 02-01-11 03:44 PM

We had such a great weekend and now this! At least I rode my trainer today.

dnmhc 02-01-11 04:56 PM

I tried to get out the door today and go for a ride but some places the snow was about a foot and a half high, so I thought better of it. We have a shot at getting 20 inches here in mid-Missouri. We've already gotten around 8-10 inches and the storm is only halfway done.

At least it's actually a little snow and not just a lot of Dirt blowing around!

fishymamba 02-01-11 07:18 PM

I feel sorry for you people in the North east. Nice sunny day in SoCal! And a perfect weekend for biking coming up!Sunny with temps in the 70s!

ravenmore 02-01-11 07:22 PM

That's not the north east - that's Dallas. As in Texas. No snow in Austin but temp is 22 right now and dropping.

71F with strong winds tomorrow. I'm skipping commercial law to squeeze a ride in!

ravenmore 02-01-11 09:33 PM

and that would be the sound of dropping below 20 degrees in Austin. I imagine its colder in Dallas. Welcome to Texas Green Bay. :D

zatopek 02-01-11 10:02 PM

29 degrees with heavy freezing rain here. Just took the dogs out for last call and slid down the driveway. Wheeee, I'm Alex Ovechkin!

Doohickie 02-01-11 10:32 PM

Check out this clip starting just after the 2:30 mark. Those are the guys I ride with at night.

StephenH 02-02-11 12:01 AM

Woo, 20 degrees is "dangerous cold"!

Doohickie 02-02-11 09:10 AM

Yeah... I was out in the backyard yesterday cleaning up dog bombs in a pair of sweats, a t-shirt and a flannel shirt... and slippers.

Dangerous

cruelster 02-02-11 10:30 AM

Loving the rolling blackouts in Dallas right now. Loving them...

Last night around 8:00 PM I looked at temperatures:

Dallas, 17F
Green Bay, 19F
Pittsburgh, 34F

So Steelers and Packers fan thought they be somewhere warmer? ;)
