What chain for Ultegra 6700 cassette and Sram everything else?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Actually my 09 TCR Advance SL is a DA7900 spec'ed bike, somewhere towards the end of the season they changed out the Mavic Cosmics with Kysirum SL lightweight wheels that came with an Ultegra 6600 cassette. The chain was definately a 7900 chain though.

In general....while the fool nomenclature is used to drive the point home....it is not worth it.

FWIW - KMC xhains which perform better and longer than Shimano spec and SRAM spec chains cost much less. In most cases 1/2 what most LBS's charge for any Shimano chain. I would put on here what I sell them to my customers for but then it would be advertising.

Not surprised to hear that 6700 may also be uni-directional, but in general running them backwards should not affect anything other than front shifting. The directional nature of the chain was created to mate well with the new 7900 crank. Running them "backwards" should not result in a drivetrain that doesn't shift or work, but shift performance would most likely be worse than just using a straight up standard chain.

I bought a brand new KMC X10-SL Ti a few weeks ago on eBay for $40, free shipping. Coming from a full priced Wippermann, that's cheap.

Cheap, good quick link, works.
agree if you are not going to go with the X10SL then you must get the X10.93 end of story

I have the same configuration... Ultegra 6700 cassette with all SRAM components. Use a DA 7900 chain... smooth as silk. No issues whatsoever.

7900, 7901, 7801 - why must shimano make this so complicated. The cheapest DA chain on Amazon right now is the 7801 for $37. That's similar to the cost of the x10.93 so I might give that one a try. Anyone know if there are any differences between the 7801 and the 7900 that would affect how it works on an Ulgegra cassette and sram everything else?
