Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sounds like it'll meet your needs. Get a helmet, a pump, a flat repair kit, a spare tube, a tire lever and a multi-tool, then learn how to repair a flat tire.

They are fairly decent bikes for what you pay for. The problem is, you have to build it yourself. If you don't know what your doing, Not the best choice.
This particular bike is very adjustable in the fitting, but that means the parts are not as nice. I always remove adjustable stems for static ones. ALso, the front fork is Aluminum as well as the whole frame. This will create one of the least comfortable rides for a road bike you can get.

But hell, for under 400 dollars, it is not a bad bike at all. Gives you something to start with and certainly provides you with much room for improvement.
You still want to go to some local shops and sit on bikes of equal sizing. Make sure you at least think your ordering the correct size.

Nice bike for the price! However, like X-LinkedRider said bikes direct bikes don't come assembled, so if you don't know what you're doing you might need to take it to a LBS for assembly, which will add a bit to the cost. You may want to think about trying to find a used bike on craigslist; for that price you'll be able to get Sora or Tiagra/105 components if you're patient.

+1, this is exactly how I pulled my Allez, almost brand new. Plus the benefit of that, is you get to ride it first and test it out.
