Any advice on cheap (but good) clipless shoes?

Shimano's cheapest model is like $70-90

What size are you? Check out JensonUSA .. they ahve some shimanos on sale for CHEAP. R132's for $40 as an example ..

You need to find out which ones fit you best. If they are uncomfortable but only cost $10, that's still a bad deal. Some brands are narrower than others, varying toe room etc .... find some shops & try them on.

Try shoes on and then buy them in the store you tried them on at.

Different companies shape their shoes differently and not every size 10 is the same. Most companies make a range of shoes so if you can afford cycling shoes you'll find one you can afford at most shops. The extra money you pay will be less than buying two pairs of shoes online.

my brother bought Nashbar brand shoes... He likes 'em well enough and they are affordable by most definitions.

IMO the 5700s are a better buy than the R540s, though.

as someone posted before me, the R132 shoes on jensonusa are great shoes. i bought them for $170, i've seen them on bonktown for $75-80, and if you have small feet, the jensonusa price is a bargain and then some!

For sure. You are asking for trouble if you don't try them on first. They vary wildly in fit. size and comfort. If they are not comfortable in the store, they won't be on the bike either. Good luck

Also useful to dig through Nashbar returns and see if there's something in there that fits.

I just got my pair in last week and have put 45 miles on them so far. I paid $54.99 for them. They got tons of great reviews.

I bought a pair of specialized for 70 dollars at the LBS 5 years ago- still going strong.

Any Nashbar brand piece of clothing or equipment has been a complete waste. Just my opinion but the quality always seems poor.

I have never had a problem with anything from Nashbar. Their multi-tool that I have works great and the shoes I have work just fine. Various other pieces of clothing and tools work well too.

Diadora Aerospeed Road Shoes $40

Go to your LBS and try them on. I recently bought a pair and tried on about 5 pairs. Some fit better than others and you need to be able to see what shoes work and what shoes may put pressure in uncomfortable areas.
