Depends on your fitness level, how wide your pelvis is (sit bones), and your flexibility. What may be the most comfortable saddle in the world to me, may be an unbearable ass-hatchet to you.

Fizik antares has worked wonders for me

I suppose you have tried to adjust your saddle position? 5mm up or down/ back or forth could make a huge difference.

i don't mean to make this about bike stores, but i've never been to one where they had it set up where i could try different aftermarket components, much less a saddle.
this is the saddle i use. it's more comfortable than the Selle Italia Prolink Gel Flow that i used to use, probably because it's supportive where it needs to be. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5092/...7e5a5378_b.jpg |

Prologo scratch pro really works for me,and is one of the most popular saddles in the pro ranks.I have tried lots of saddles and from different brands and the scratch was a instead succuss for me.

It's better to look good than to feel good. . .

Thicker does not mean comfort...

One of our LBS's has test saddles from San Marco and Selle Italia....I've been trying out various ones. I'm currently on an Aliante Gamma. It's pretty nice but breaking down and getting too soft so I'm having some issues.
Tested San Marco Mantra this evening...wow is that one bendy. At first I thought it would be good to have that much "give" but it could actually be too much. Nice big cut out though. Tomorrow's ride I'll be on my old Selle SLK. Then on to the Flite. |

I have one question:
Is perceived comfort also a function of. . trying to think of a word. . um effort? Er. . riding style? I mean, as one gets stronger, more confident on the bike, aren't we going to invariably prefer a more minimal / rigid saddle? I know I did. But then again, like I said, I never think about it. My hands and feet get fatigued way more before my hind end does.
