Back in the saddle, starting with a new bike? I need your help with these 3 bikes!?
 

I was an avid rider 11 years ago, until a car decided to intervene with my passion. I have been out of the saddle since, but have been in the gym for a straight month building my legs, heart, and lungs.

I am getting a new bike, as a kick in the right direction, to get this process started, but I am having difficulty making the end-all decision.

All 3 bikes are 2010 model years, and each has its difference. They are:
2010 Pinarello FP3- Ultegra and Fulcrum 5 wheelset-

Your thoughts would be much appreciated. I liked the BMC ride and the stiffless of the split carbon/alum frame but feel that technology was something of the past. I liked the Pinarello but have been leaning more towards teh Colnago now.

All three look like they have slightly different geometries. I'll be the first to say get which ever one fits the best. If that doesn't help narrow it down, get the one you think looks the most bad-ass.

Since you seem to like the ride of each and want our opinion, I vote for the Pinarello.

Since you like all three get the one that you fit on the best. What about dealer, are they from the same dealer? Pick a good dealer as I think that is very important.

Thanks for your early support and help! I will say I liked the BMC geometry better than the Pinarello, however im still in love with the overall feel of the Pinarello. I am riding the Colnago tomorrow.

They are all from the same shop, which I have a lot of respect for in our area. THey have worked their butts off in helping me make this decision.

I love the "Badass" factor and I think the Pina and Colnago win for sure. Im looking for thoughts on reliability or performance based on brand as well. Thoughts????

It sounds like you and I are in the same Boat, I broke my neck and lots of other things in a crash 20 mths ago and my Bike was broken in four parts so obviously I had to replace it..

I wasn't able to test-ride anything because I was still in a Body cast and I also narrowed it down to Colnago, BMC and the Pinarello FP3...

I decided on the FP3 and absolutely love it, it's a very smooth/silent/solid ride, which really helps because I crushed 5 vertebrae in my back too...Mine has SRAM Force, which took some getting used to because my last Bike had Campy Record...I still find myself hunting for the Thumb Lever sometimes..

It also came with Fulcrum 5 wheels which are very heavy and will be the first upgrade, my Mavic SSL's were also destroyed but I'm only up to 40 mile rides with a few friends and mostly solo so while I'm getting over the psychological fear of riding again the 5's are plenty fast enough ;-)

The Assymetrical design on the FP3 really works, you can really feel it when out of the saddle..the rear is constructed differently on the drive side...

You have great taste and all 3 are nice Bikes. It's a hard choice....

Oh BTW, when I got measured for my FP3 (I was still in a Body Cast at the time) I learned the Top Tube (TT) measurement is the most important on a Pinarello...

I'm very jealous of the fact that you found those three superb bikes in your area, in your size, to test ride. The fact that you found them all in one shop is icing on the cake.

Since I've not ridden either of them and they're specced the same I'm limited to looks, and for that they are all nice. But the Pinerello gets my vote due to the matching crank arms.

Don't really know enough about them to compare, but I have always thought that Pinarello makes one sexy bike

My LBS has that Pinarello on the floor. Freaking beautiful. By far the best looking bike of the bunch. Just looks fast sitting there. That's my vote.

I love the look of BMCs, but I think you'd have a really hard time making a bad decision out of those three. Another thing to consider would be manufacturer warranty. Other than that, take em' out for some more test rides, get the one that speaks to you the most, and post pics here when done.

I don't understand, did the Pinarello designers sneeze while working on the fork/stays?

Get the BMC.

The picture of the BMC shows it has Easton wheels and not Mavics. If your LBS gives you the BMC with the Eastons as shown and with full Ultegra then go the BMC; BUT - make sure it fits you properly. Fit is more important than looks (insert "flame on" icon here), so definitely go with the fit first......

Im going out for 10miles on the Pinarello and the Colnago this afternoon, pending the clouds hold the rain in for awhile.

I have been doing more research than necessary and it all looks to point towards whichever feels most comfortable and rides the sexiest!

I do have to say that I love the Colnago sloping look and the colorway. But the Pina is hot as well... Already have some purchases ready to go... take a look

If all three bikes are from the same shop, then maybe you can zero in on the "comfort" by making sure the same wheelset is on all three. Make sure you inflate it to the pressure you normally ride. That way, you might rule out the wheelset effect.

The wheelset is not so much a buying point, but an after purchase consideration. My LBS will allow me to switch any wheelset onto the bike for a slight upcharge, which I will do.

The BMC so far is out! Its now between the Pina & the Colnago. What I find funny is the Colnago has gotten great reviews on the web, however people are very iffy on whether they like it in the public forum sense.

It seems the Pina is a hands down winner but we will see later this afternoon.

Wow. Im a little disappointed... Not is the ride or the bike, but the weight. I stand corrected, this bike has Fulcrum 7's which I know are quite heavy (1800+ for the set) but 19.88lbs is a serious number. Am I wrong? Now, it did have some clunker pedals on it, and MOST fron/rear brakes, neck & handlebars, which can easily be replaced, but this baby is a beast!

I only had time to jump onto the Pinarello before the rain started coming down, so I hope ill be able to jump onto the Colnago tomorrow or Saturday for some comparison.

Should I be looking elsewhere? I just feel like 15-17lbs is more like it, but 19 is a little chunky...LOL

You can get a nice 19lb bike for about 1/3 less than what those bikes cost.

haven't ridden any of them, but i love the look of that BMC.

if it were me i would go with the BMC and see if they will put Ultegra on it and maybe the wheels you want ( i would take what they had and buy better wheels if they dont have exactly what wheels you want).

yes 19+lb is a lot but put on some new wheels and you would save around a lb. change a few more things and you will be under 17 or 18lb easy but it will cost you more so think of that now.

really as other have said buy the one that fits the best and go from there. no one here can tell you that. its up to you. all three of them are nice bikes.
