Recommend me a cycle computer please?
 

I finally got around to get a cycle computer for my bike only to realize there's so many choices to choose from and would hate to have some buyers remorse at the end. Anyone have any recommendations from what's out there? Wireless is preferred.

And if it matters, I plan to put a cyclocomputer on my a '09 Orbea Orca with 3T arx and Ergonova, sram s80 front.

Any negatives about the Edge 800? I'm planning to get this one thanks to my carbon fetish to match all the carbon goodness in the cockpit.

If you're putting it on an Orca then I'd say you picked the right model.. Top of the line, that is.

I have an 800 and like it. You can get a lot of info on the Garmin 800 forum too. Just bear in mind that the forum is the place where all the complaints are aired out. I found one error in the instructions that I got cleared up with the forum. Its easy to use even for a non computer person like me. My old garmin was the 308 forerunner and it was a great unit and completely trouble free till it fell off the bike and got run over by a SUV's tire, which is why i made the upgrade. Good luck with what ever you get.

Cateye Enduro 8. I have used it for a long long time, on a couple of bikes with no problems what so ever. It does not have cadence however if you really need that feature

Garmin Edge 305 here. It's never done me wrong. If you want color, maps, and a touchscreen, look at the 800.

I like the ROX8 or ROX90 by Sigma

I have a Blackburn Delphi 4.0 and really like it. The screen shows everything I want - speed, distance, time, cadence. No need to flip through screens during a ride to get the info I need. It's basic, but it works.

I've had good luck with Cateye computers. They have a lot of models, so you can decide how much info you want on the screen and if you want cadence or HR to go along with speed/distance. I have a Strada Wireless on my main bike. It's cheap & simple and the battery gets good life.

Garmin's are great since you get to record your rides, and if you opt for using the heart rate monitor - you can use the data to train.

I have the non-bike specific Forerunner 305, since I'm using the HRM for indoor activities. I want to get an 800 though, so I can get lost at will on long rides.

For non-gps / hrm computers, I use a Cateye Strada wired & a Sigma BC1606L wired. I prefer the bike mount on the Cateye Strada much more, and have had no problems of it falling out of the mount. I've had the Sigma fall out of the mount a couple of times and now it has wacky issues. The Sigma has slightly nicer features, but the Cateye would be my recommendation.

I'm very happy with my Garmin Edge 205. I don't care about heart rate, cadence, or maps, so this is perfect for me (bought it used for $100).

I just bought my daughter a Garmin Forefunner 305 because she also runs and does triathlons.

I have a Cateye Strada double wireless, measures cadence too.
I'm happy with it.

Good choice on the 800. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I have been using a Cateye v2c for the past 2 yrs. I'm finally upgrading to 500 so I can record my training via Garmin Connect. It beats logging in data through excel after every ride.

The 800 is nice but like Razor I have no use for maps (android phone for that if needed). I usually learn my route the night before or my group ride usually has a rider that leads the group on longer rides. I wanted something small and simple. Enjoy your new toy.

On the cheap Cateye anything. Fancy go for Garmin.

Just get an Edge 500 and be done with it. Get the 800 if you need mapping or just have money to burn.

One thing with the Edge 500 is you can get your speed without using a wheel magnet. Some people like that but it isn't quite a accurate, 98 percent though.

Cateye has great customer service. Several BF members have gotten replacement parts (I got a new head unit after I stupidly left my bike in the garage in sub zero weather and the LCD cracked) -- Cateye sent me a new unit, no cost, no shipping, arrived within a week. Can't beat that.

+1 Excellent cs by Cateye. My speed/cadence sensor stopped working. Placed a call to them on a Tuesday. They confirmed the sensor went bad. Shipped out that day and received it by Friday from Colorado to SoCal.


Agree. I'm moving up to a 500 because my v2c lacks a barometric altimeter.

Garmin replaced my Edge 305 twice. Once where it had the battery contact error, the second time being where it fell off the mount and got ran over by a car.
