Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Those pics look a lot like my ride today around the Newport Beach Back Bay in So Cal. I got sun burned today because it was hot and dry, but I guess it is better than frost bite.

First one looks like the top of Torrey Pines hill heading down to torrey pines state beach (North), the 2nd one is any random beach here, the last is descending down to torrey pines state beach (South) to the bottom of the torrey pines hill. Just a guess. A little toasty today. I'm doing that route tomorrow am (Mira mesa to Oceanside Harbor and back).

Me too! I did 77 miles from Irvine-Sunset Beach-Newport Beach-Laguna Beach-Dana Point and back up to Irvine. I had SPF30 on but as soon as I got out of the house (9:30am) the wind was warm and I knew I was going to be in trouble. I've got a bit of an arm-burn and face-burn although it's really just more of a tan.

Absolutely AWESOME day of riding in SoCal!

I'm too scared of sharks to ride by the sea. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. It's the thought that counts.

Here's my version of that ride. Wussed out on Torrey and just did Sorrento Valley Blvd home (9-11% but short although it doesn't feel like that after 55 miles). Intended to get more but hooked up with an impromptu train and milked it.

Start:

Del Mar (actually on the way back):
