Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Take-off parts availability

I'm watching eBay for some parts upgrades, something that I haven't done previously. Is there usually an uptick in availability of new, take-off parts in the spring? (I guess that this is based upon my assumption that spring is a good time for new bike sales). Any difference in used parts availability in the spring? Conversely, are there more people in the same position as me, leveling out the supply and demand? I'm just wondering if a little more patience will pay dividends in the coming months.

I built my whole bike up off of parts that I got on ebay. It took me some time to get everything I wanted, about 5 months, but I got it all. Patience will pay off, but also start scouring craigslist. This takes more time because it is city specific but I was surprised at how much was available there for another project. Good luck.

Also, checkout the forums at slowtwitch.com, those tri-guys have nice parts and are often quitting/upgrading.

GVH Bikes has prices nearly as good as used stuff online (if you're looking at sram stuff), and ribble bikes in the UK is got better than used prices on anything made in europe.

I know you were asking about ebay stuff, but these are just my general tips on bike part shopping.

Back OT, I agree with you. Best parts are found in the spring. More people buying, upgrading, and (in general) thinking about their bikes.
