Hi, sorry for another wheel ?. I came across a NEW 2010 MAVIC KSYRIUM SL CLINCHER WHEELSET 700c for $699 is this a great buy ?? List for $999
Also I weigh 180 lbs. want to use them for daily use long weekend club rides (50+ miles) and do a few centuries during the year. Are these a good choice??

They are ok but consensus is overpriced. If you could get them for say $500 I would say go for it. There are too many other good wheels you can get for less, eg. soul, williams, etc.

I agree with datlas. You can get much better values elsewhere. Mavics have a huge markup. I really do not like the alumunim spokes (vs. stainless steel) on those wheels as well as radial lacing on the drive side, but that is a different story.

I do similar rides and weigh the same. I also run the SL's. Great wheel. I live in the upper midwest and the roads are beat up. Ksyriums are great.
People will always recommend smaller companies, etc. Or slightly cheaper wheels.

It's like the popular restaurant around here called Wildfire. People go to other steak + seafood places seeking dishes as good for a little less money. Finally, after always comparing meals that are ALMOST as good or ALMOST as $$$ ---- you just ask why didn't you just go to Wildfire in the first place?

Ride the Ksyriums. Let them remain true for 20,000 miles. Sure, there are lighter wheels, and it does depend on your terrain and style but I also paid $699 for the SLs enjoy them and don't look back.

You want more spokes so that when you ride over a pot hole or rock and bend a rim the wheel is likely to stay true enough to ride with the brake quick release open (doesn't even affect braking power with Campagnolo) or be made true with your spoke wrench.
