White saddle discoloration fixes

Anyone have any tips on turning my Selle Italia Team Flite white again? I'd like to put it back on the bike once I get back outside.

I had it installed while the bike was on the trainer and swapped it out once it started to discolor (among other comfort reasons). By discolor I mean a yellowish tint due to sweat. I don't sweat nearly as much outside so if I could get it white again it'll stay that way.

I've tried the "Magic Eraser" method to no avail.

This could hurt the leather if there is any on there, but I use citrus degreaser and got some good results on dirty white brake hoods. The citrus degreaser was for ski/snowboard bases. Maybe just regular bike citrus degreaser would work as well. Put a little on there and see if it works. Let it be for a week or so and see if the leather degrades. If not, do the rest. Just a little bit is all you need. don't pour directly onto the saddle, of course, just put some on a rag that won't stain like a old white shirt and go to town.

And if you have any sins you'd like scrubbed from your soul or traumatic childhood memories you'd like wiped from memory, they'll take care of those too.

Edit: just noticed that you'd already tried it. (You must sweat concentrated Sharpie ink.) About the only thing left is some of that Kiwi white-shine stuff in the household section of most supermarkets. It's mostly used for nurses to keep their shoes white.

Switch to 2-ply

eww.

Just ride the thing. You can't see the discoloration when your ass is on it. :thumb:

Me, too. Every time I read one of those "How do I clean my white saddle (tape, shorts, shoes)?" posts, I think, "Why would you buy a white one? And what made you think it wouldn't get dirty?"

Black Sharpie

Shoe cleaner. You might could try shoe whitener too but I have never had good results from that on shoes.

I didn't, and I didn't.

I bought a black saddle on ebay for roughly $35. When it got here it was white (and not the saddle I ordered). Sellers didn't respond after I asked why they shipped the wrong thing.
When I looked it up and found out it was worth over $150 I decided I wouldn't bust my hump trying to send it back. :)
Now I have a white saddle.

OP,

I've kind of given up on keeping mine white. As another poster noted, no one can see it when you are on it.

The first time you ride on a really wet gritty day, your butt will scrub off some of the staining (along with the Selle Italia logos on the sides of the saddle). You really can't win. Embrace having a bike that looks like it is ridden.

That's a pretty good reason.

I enjoy the comments saying that I should bought a black saddle even AFTER I explained how I actually came about owning this saddle.

And you were expecting more scintillating input why?

That must be embarrassing!

It must be a common problem with these (expensive!) seats as Ribble is trying to unload a pre-discoloured one:

If the sun can damage it, I don't think I want one.

when i bought my frame, they offered a free saddle and i chose the white one. it looked really nice but I regret it. I'm alwas fretting about what I lean it against.

try dishwashing liquid. same for white bar tape.

I regret the white bar tape too.

My solution to keeping non black bar tape clean, is to just change the tape more frequently. I also like the change in color and texture.
