How to remove this seat?
ok... my friend has a tarmac.. and he wanted to trade saddles with mine. i'm all cool about it.. but when it comes to removing his seat from the seat post (with zertz insert), we were lost. i can remove the rear bolt.. but can't remove the front bolt. any ideas on how to do so?

Your friend sounds like a FRED!!!! Bet he rides in a Postie jersey with no helmet!!!!!

if you were to ask slvoid, he would insist that the first thing to do in seat removal is to smell it, then continue to remove it :D

it's kinda weird.. cuz on the zertz insert seat post.. there is one screw in the back which you can easily loosen, but the other screw is towards the front, but it's screwed from top down from inside the seat. |
Let me guess, Your friend also takes his $5K bike to the LBS to have a flat tire firxed!!!
That sounds similar to my seatpost. On mine, the rear screw is used to loosen the seat to move fore/aft..adn if you keep unscrewing it, the top metal plate can be lifted up. Once you lift it up, you rotate it so that you can see the rail for the seat, wiggle the seat until the rails move clear of the top metal plate and remove... The front screw is a "thumbscrew" that you can loosen once you have loosened the rear screw. It is used to control tilt of the seat... I hope this helps. |
Zapp.. thanks! and yes.. he hasn't had a flat yet.. but perhaps when that happens.. he will bring it in. besides.. he rarely rides with helmet on as well.. so go figure, not to mention not bringing any spare tubes, pumps, etc. so once those 23s pops.. he's walking for sure.

you sure he won't be riding on just the rim or calling the taxi to come pick him up? :P
