He's going to yell at you

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

He's going to yell at you

Sixty degrees in Denver and lots of people in T-shirts getting out their winter ya-yas. I cut through Washington Park en route to my ride, and, despite the 15 mph park speed limit (occasionally enforced by cops with radar guns), I have two roadies blast by me.

On the road about 100 yards ahead in the walking lane is a mom with a leashed Labrador and a kid in a stroller. On the other side of the road, opposite her and the bike lane, is a flock of geese.

Just before the two roadies zoom by, the dog barks and lunges toward the geese.

Roadie No. 1 – Cervelo S2, matching Cervelo kit – screams at the top of his lungs at the still-leashed dog, then turns back to the mom and shouts, “F’n b1tch! Control your dog!” Then he rode away.

My questions:

1. Is there something about road cycling that attracts high-strung personalities, or does road cycling turn you that way?

2. When I said, "Sorry," to the frazzled mom, she told me, “Bikers are just that way.” Is this how most non-cyclists view cyclists? Should we care?

3. If I had an S2, would I ride fast?

Roadie #1 deserves an (cough, cough) intervention.

Sounds like a rude person riding a bike, being a roadie has nothing to do with it.

1. Donkeys in ditches are going to be donkeys in ditches regardless of what they do (road cycling, MTBing, roofing, etc...).

2. I don't think so...I think they don't think about us until we make ourselves known to them either by being donkeys in ditches or by being nice (like I do when I MTB and stop fully when I see a hiker/walker and give them a wide birth...I always get a big smile and thank you).

3. Depends on what color it was and if that S2 was designed by Cannondale.

we have citizens like this in chicago. they yell at everyone on the lakefront path to get out of their way, including other cyclists.

and on the roads, car drivers yell at me to get off the road

clearly it is a problem of no one ever knowing any of the rules

and yes, this how most non-cyclists view cyclists.

The police use radar guns in the park?

As for the incident, did the dog get anywhere close to the cyclists? Or was it easily leashed in?

This has nothing to do with cyclists but people raging because they think they're right - it's even a problem among people walking on sidewalks or airport terminals, at least that's what the Wall Street Journal reported:https://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...EYWORDS=ragers

Yep. Bikes ride counter-clockwise and runners/walkers go clockwise. On a nice day there are hundreds of people on the park road, which is closed to cars, and the cops show up when neighborhood groups complain about fast cycling speeds. I thought most cities had a park like this.

The lab hit the end of the leash when the roadies were about 10 feet away.

I blame that F’n b1tch that couldn't control her stupid dog!

People on Cervelos have the right of way, and the problem is that Mrs. F'n b!tch didn't know that!
