Help ! Can't pull out my bottle
It's annoying. I have to stop every time I wanna drink water. If I start to get one hand away from the handlebar my front wheel starts going everywhere. Can't keep my balance. It just feels like most of my weight is put on the front of the bike, hence the problem. I've noticed that putting the hands on the tops helps a bit, but no cigar on reaching that bottle.
Any tips ?
Oh and I can't wave, so that's my excuse for that other thread

Practice. That's the only way to get better with riding one-handed and eventually no-handed.
I had to practice getting the bottle when I was starting too.

It helps if you grip the handlebar on the tops, with your non-dominant hand and your thumb butting up against the stem. Reach down with your dominant hand but keep your eye on the road.
You will get the hang of it.

agree with holding on to top with hand next to stem. its harder to turn the bars there. give it a try and keep working at it you will eventually get it.

Where is the cage mounted? Try it in the other positiion and see if that makes it easier to reach.

I was unable to reach for the water bottle at first too. I'm still relatively green, but no longer wobble all over the road when doing it.
My new challenge is signaling when riding in groups. It's particularly hard coming to a red light/ stop sign at full speed and having to signal that i will stop (by placing my hand on my back). I can't quite press the brakes only with one hand while steering.
It's getting easier with time though.

Sound like you are just one of those who has a hard time riding with one hand let alone no hands or reaching for a bottle and drinking from it..
Before you bother trying to grab a bottle riding with one hand practice first riding with one hand switch till you can ride trouble free then work your way down to the bottle, actually drinking from it while on the move will produce yet another exciting learning curve.
Practice practice practice, many have trouble riding one handed so you are not alone for sure.
