Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bare frames?

Anyone know any companies that sell bikes with bare carbon or titanium frames? I don't really feel like becoming a rolling advertisement.

I think Merlin is about the most understated. I believe the decals and paint are optional but they do engrave the model name on the top tube and theri logo on the front of the headtube. I personally think the engraving looks good. You might be able to get them to leave that off on a custom frame though.

Check out my thread called "Trinity". I bought a Pedal Force matte finish carbon frame, which is an asian company, but they are better quality than Giants, EPX, Scattante, etc. Full monocoque frames for a reasonable price because they are not painted. You can remove the pedal force decal, as it is not coated over.

I painted my own frame in my garage with an airbrush, using Createx Auto airbrush paint and two part Automotive clear coat.

My ti frame is decalless. Years ago I 'melted' all the Litespeed decals/logos on that frame using acetone. Wiped clean off the frame.....

I really like the stealth look.....especially bare titanium. It just looks very business-like and serious.
THat's the kind of bike you get on to ride......no showboating, just speed.

I would really love to see some pictures of stealth bikes.

I was thinking of building my race bike with a bare titanium frame along with silver drivetrain complemented with black fork/seatpost, etc.(maybe some Zipp wheels)

It would be a anti-bling! bling! bike....but it would be fast.

I would love the bare look as well. I had an older felt with the matte black finish and the decals naturally fall off. Now I have the Kestrel Evoke which has Evoke 16 times (8 on each side).

Yeah, I love the frames.....but would love to see what a completed bike looks like. I guess I'll have to wait until yours is done. Speaking of that, Glevii you know about performance 20% off coupon right?

Haha......I had this same problem with cervelo super prodigy.

no kidding. some of these bikes (my specialized and fuji included) are so ridiculous looking. almost every square inch is contaminated with logos. i might take my frame to a painter (Chelsea bikes on 26th, pretty cheap and seemingly good quality) this winter for a repainting sans logos. i'll have to talk to them again, but i remember the price being less than $200.

Sorry, but pictures are not allowed. What part of "stealth" do you not understand?

Well, so far it's just the frame, fork, crank and bottom bracket. I should be done somewhere around the beginning of December. Will definitely take pics.

Yeah, the 20% coupon turns a $249.00 set of Record Ergo Levers into a $200.00 set of Record Ergo Levers. Ummmmm, that's a no brainer.

There are so many great websites out there that will price match, and work out deals with you. Even though Performance is great, I've been able to find better by shopping around a lot of times.
