Perception

I am new to cycling and am most likely a fred (not exactly sure what that entails). Jan.23 I purchased a Trek 1.5 and have done about 600 miles and am addicted. I have read as much as possible over that time. I am able to get a Trek 5.2 through a friend new for 33 percent off msrp. I went to my LBS to test ride it today. It was very cold and damp if that means anything. The bike was very light and climbed much easier then my1.5. I could not help but get the feeling that it felt less solid, firm, more plastic (for lack of knowledge or better terms). I have a feeling these are probably good things yet it left me feeling a bit disappointed. I really want to get this bike as I like the price, the looks, and the fact that I am getting a quality product. I did not ride the bike long enought to get a good feel (only about fifteen minutes). I did not want to muck the bike up. Most likely I will really like the bike when I get the feel. It is probably just getting used to a carbon frame. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

What? Just keep your bike. It's like 4 weeks old.

You already have a nice bike. Go ride.

ive been riding for years ,i used to race back in the 80's.Ride the 1.5 for a couple years, get some miles in yer legs, then you will have a better idea of what you really want out of a race bike.
I just ordered a caad-10 but i know exactly what i wanted and waited til I knew for sure

You will find other 5-series Treks at a discount later. Get a lot of use out of your current bike first. Put it through its paces and make a list of things that you like and dislike about it. Then, when you are ready to "upgrade", you will know exactly what to look for (ride comfort, shifting idiosyncrasies, wheels, handling, etc).

She's right. So are we. Don't get caught up on the bike.
