Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano RD6600 short cage with 34/50 chainset and 11-27 cassette

Hi, I am considering a 6600 RD for my bike build but according to the shimano technical spec document it will support a maximum chainring difference of 14T. A 34/50 will exceed this by 2T.
Even if this is OK, going with an 11/27 cassette would also exceed the max capacity.
(50-34)+(27-11) = 16+16 = 32, and shimano says max capacity is 29T.
But reading forums many people appear to say the short cage is ok with a "double compact", but can't find anyone specifically mentioning a 34/50 combo).
Does anyone have this working ok with a 34/50 chainring combination and an 11-27 cassette?
or will I have to go for the longer cage version?
Many thanks.

I've run a 50/34 compact with a 12-27 in the past using a DA7800 short cage RD without issue. Many bikes come with that kind of combination, I doubt it would be an issue.

I have a 50/34 and 11-28 (so 33 chainwrap) on Shimano 105 5600 components. It took some fine tuning of the derailleur but it works without problem. fwiw the bike came with a 12-27, so it was already 2 over capacity from the factory.
