is this a good pump for $20?

one thing about it i cant figure out, it looks like the pressure gauge is right over the second foot hold thing. whats with that?

I have a different model Silca than this and love it. It's the best pump I've used. Looks like a good deal. Go for it!

Not the Track pump, but if you don't have one, can't imagine doing better for the price.

It looks to me as if the gauge is actually at 90 degrees to the foot supports, not that it really matters. You will probably only step on one foot support anyway.

Their thinking was probably something along the lines of, "if we have to put it at the base (and we do because then we couldn't charge more the the higher end model... :rolleyes: ), we'll design it so that if it's obvious you wouldn't put your foot near it, it won't get stepped on and crushed." Better yet, Silca will sell you the part if you do pull a ***** like that... :)

As for me, I would spend more money on a Pump. I think it is worth spending the money to buy something that is going to last.

I purchased a pump for $49.99 at SuperGo and within a month, I blew out the seal on the bottom of the pump. I have no idea how that happened because the pump was rated to 160PSI and it blew out at about 120PSI.

I went back and the Blackburn TP-5 was on sale for $99.99 and I have never looked back. This is one amazing pump. I never knew pumps could be so durable, especially growing up with the old barrel pumps. If you want to inflate your tires with ease, this is the way to go, especially with its HIGH Pressure valve switch...

well right now, im just looking for something that will last me a while. i cant rationalize spending 5 times as much as i paid for my bike on a pump. maybe once i get a good bike, i'll understand spending $100 (actually onsale for $70 at performance) to get a top mounted gauge and other such gimmicks ...



just kidding, im sure the internals of the blackburn offer an advantage, but still ITS A PUMP! unless you inflate wheels for a living, i think a $20 pump will provide plenty of inflating action. i hope the silca will perfom well and last me (hopefully) a really really really long time. the fact that i can order parts "sealed the deal" for me.

i emailed nashbar before i ordered to see where exactly the gauge was mounted, but they havent gotten back to me yet, so i guess ill post if i find out before i get it.

I bought the blue nashbar pump a few years ago on sale for $16, with the built in pressure guage. I use it atleast twice a week, it's doing great, and I would buy it again in a second. I think it is on sale too right now, actually.

yeah one of the nashbar pumps was my second choice. i ordered the silca cause i feel better about getting the name brand that has replaceable parts. experiences like A3rd.Zeros make me even more comfortable about my decision
