Would you buy a Garmin from this ebay seller?
Price seems very good. Is there some catch? He has said that if there is a warranty issue, I would have to send the unit back to him and he would take care of it.

Count vouch for the seller, but I've had to return my Edge 3 times and a 305 once. Not once did Garmin ask me when/where did I buy it.

That's the going rate on Ebay for a new 500. Note: you may be comparing it to units that include the full bundle ie. cadence and heart rate monitor. This particular unit does not include it. Also, you don't get the warranty you would get at the store.

Thanks guys. I realize its without HR and cadence, but currently wife and I have the 305, so we just need the head units. Store warranty is no use to me. I live in India, so was thinking of going the ebay route.
Planning PT wheels and hence the upgrade.

I just received mine from them yesterday. The shipping was fast (aside from being held up for 4 days in customs).
Registered it yesterday and got to use it tonight for the first time.

Deepak,
I see you're from Bangalore. I friend of mine from the States lives there now and has taken up cycling a few month ago. I wonder if you know him. (He states the cycling community is pretty small in Bangalore). Anyway, his name is Tom McGuire and he rides with a group in the early morning. He's also done some road races. Currently, he's recovering from an accident. He was hit by a truck.
I visit Mumbai often for work and have visited Tom in Bangalore. I know how crazy the traffic can be. Be careful out there.

Quite a co incidence. Have met Tom a couple of times, and if I remember right, once was when we did a 200km brevet. We did not ride together but met at lunch. I think he was riding with a guy called Sharat.
Yes, Bangalore cycling community is small but growing.
Hit by a truck? Poor guy. Was he badly hurt? OK now? Yes, traffic here is crazy. No respect for any other people on the road at all.

I think Tom was stopped on a bridge or overpass and was pinned up against the cement wall on the side of the bridge/road. A truck clipped his handle bars and flipped the bike over with Tom still on it. He ended up on the lying road with his legs perpendicular to the wall and the back wheels of the truck ran over his right leg between his knee and ankle. He was lucky that his leg wasn't broken but he sustained compression injuries and sprained ligaments in both knees. Actually, he's lucky to be alive.
I saw him a few weeks after the accident and he was using a cane and his leg was still quite swollen and sore. He's not able to do any physical activity for 8 weeks.
You're right about no respect for any other people on the road. The truck didn't even stop until someone flagged him down.

Greg,
That is so very sad. Glad he got away with his life as well as no fracture.
Let me correct myself. When I said that cycling community is small, what I meant was that 'recreational' riding is small, but commuting is huge. India probably has the largest [or second largest next to China] population of bicycles in the world.
So, in many ways cyclists are more a part of Indian roads, however chaotic, than they are in the US. Still, accidents can be very bad as anywhere.
The problem in the west is that a cager might not 'see' or be 'aware' of the cyclist, while here he probably is aware but doesn't give a **** as he is in a bigger vehicle. Our biggest enemies here are the motorcyclists. Like I said, it's the rule of the jungle and the bigger guy rules.
Will call up Sharat and check on Tom. Feel bad that a visitor has to go thru this here.

Don't think of Tom as a visitor. He's been there for 4 years with his wife and has no plans to leave any time soon.
I hear you about the roads here in the west, and the lack of respect in general. I'm actually lucky in my part New Jersey as motorists respect people on bikes, however, there are a lot of cars.
