Refraining from sex before a big race

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Refraining from sex before a big race

Boxers do this before a big match and I was wondering if competing cyclist do the same thing in order to give them an extra edge.

Supposely not just boxers do this, but singers, musicians, dancers, actors, comedians, runners, football (soccer) players.

All that pent up sexual energy must make for a faster more aggressive cyclist, no?

Boxers Refrain from sex.
Racers just say they do because their skinny selves can't get any.

You should add married people to your list of athletes.

I read a piece a doctor wrote in response to that question in regards to MMA fighters refraining sex before a major fight. His take on it basically whatever works for you.

A study of a boxer was performed to determine what happened to testosterone levels while training before a fight as it relates to sex.

A blood sample was taken before he had sex while preparing for the bout. He had sex, then they took another blood test. His testosterone level increased.

Just saying...

You think that 2 minutes the night before will hinder your race the next morning?

Also do not shave before a race. The energy expended by growing hair saps your performance. No sex + no shave = 100% win.

No, in fact there was a study on NFL players i think... those who got it on the night performed better. It was theorized they could think a bit more clearly and were level headed in their plays! In general more focused. Something like that.

If I avoided sex and shaving for years, I still couldn't win a race.

Waitaminute...maybe I'm suffering from a perspective thing here, but is this thread really about passing up num nums so one can win a race? Am I reading this correctly?

Fortunately, I haven't a snowballs chance in hell of winning a race, so I may as well flag down the 'ol Trim Wagon when it rolls through my neighborhood
