GPS has more functions than just navigation. You can put a Garmin on anything that moves and get speed, distance, and elevation readings without any goofy speed sensor required. Later you can see where you went, in case you went exploring.

i had a max speed of 69.0 MPH once... yea.. thas how i ride Garmin Edge 500

I always forget to stop the clock and then I put my bike in the car and drive off down the highway at 65 with the Garmin recording
