How can I make this work? Crankset and derailleur questions.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How can I make this work? Crankset and derailleur questions.

My business partner who rode for Jelly Belly a year or two ago gave me some Force shifters and derailleurs. Im now trying to piece out the rest of the build on eBay and was wondering what sort of specs I should be looking for in the crankset.

So does the crank fitting actually matter or can any crank go with any bottom bracket? Could I just get a new crankset and use the old bottom bracket? How will I know?

Also, the front derailleur he gave me is a braze on and I ride a 2009 caad9-6. Is there an adapter for that?

Thanks in advance, all.

When you say "bottom bracket", are you referring to the BB shell of the frame ? (not the BB axle & bearings that the crank attaches to).

Most modern frames have 68 mm English threaded BB shells, although the newer Cannondales & some others use BB30 (an adapter sleeve is available to use English BBs)

Cranksets & BB axles need to be compatible ... A Force crankset will not work with a Campy BB. In most cases, it doesn't matter what crankset you use with the rest of the drive train. There are various exceptions here & there.

Find out what you have so far, then you'll get better answers.

Do you have a bike with a crankset on it? You may not need a new one.

From what I've researched, I have a 68mm english bottom bracket.

Would this work?

Yes, that's just a crankset so you'll also need to buy a SRAM 68mm English BB to go with it.

The deceptive picture shows a BB, but it's not included (read the fine print). That's the problem with sellers using "stock" photos instead of pictures of the actual item.
