Switching between 10 spd Shimano and SRAM cassettes anyone doing it?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Switching between 10 spd Shimano and SRAM cassettes anyone doing it?

I'm looking at buying a 12-23 Ultegra 6700 cassette. It has the 18t cog that I'd really like to have on fast/flat rides. No SRAM cassettes have the 18t.

My climbing cassette is a SRAM PG1070 11-28. The range is useful, but I don't like the gaps in gearing at the lower end of the cassette (no 16, no 18).

Since the Shimano requires a 1 mm spacer and the SRAM does not, I'm wondering if any rear derailleur adjustment will be needed when I swap between the cassettes. Anyone out there doing this?

Thanks,
Bob

Sram and Shimano cassettes and chains are fully interchangeable.

I have three different wheelsets with three different cassettes (an 11-26 Sram Red cassette, a 12-27 Sram Force cassette and an Ultegra 11-25 cassette) that I switch frequently between my two bicycles with no problem.

I swap between a DA 12-27 and Red 11-23 all the time with no issues on either bike. One bike has DA & the other has Red (derailleurs).

I used to run a Sram 11-28 "climbing" cassette on one set of wheels and a Shimano 12-25 "racing" cassette on another pair. No derailleur adjustment was needed. Part of this depends on the hub, though. I wouldn't worry about it. Back in the day, I had an 8 speed cassette on one set and an 8 speed freewheel on another set that had been respaced from 126 to 130. I just learned to twist the barrel adjuster 2 twists whenever I swapped.

I swap SRAM and Shimano cassettes without needing to make any adjustments.

I had to adjust my cable tension swapping from a 12-25 6600 cassette to an 11-23 6700 one fwiw. It takes two seconds anyway so if swapping cassettes is necessary, don't let that stop you.

I kinda would like an 18t cog also. I might look into a 12-23 (I'm using a 50/34 up front). I can always tell when I shift from the 17->19 - I would lose my top gear though.

They line up and are cross compatible. I use plenty of them interchangeably across a team's worth of wheels.

I bought a SRAM PG-1070 cassette to back up my Dura Ace cassette [and DA chain] that I'm using with a SRAM Red drivetrain. No probs.

my caad 8 with 105 9 camewith a sram cassette and my tarmac with rival 10 came with a 105 cassette, true story. The only time Iv'e had to use a 1mm washer was when I put a DA 9 cassette on a mavic kisserium elitist, though not sure of the reason why.
