Weekend Rides/Exercise - March 26/27
Last Weekend of March! And the start of Daylight Savings Time in most of Europe ... lucky Europe!
http://www.timeanddate.com/news/time...-dst-2011.html Where did you ride this weekend? Saturday - Rowan and I rode 85.7 km on our single bicycles to Marysville and back. Nice autumn day ... relatively warm (with a light jacket), sunny, and windy. The wind and hills made the ride a tough one ... a workout. http://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-...detail/?page=5 http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5028/...e5d0f27ec7.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5262/...be21dd6c97.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5255/...3770bc6150.jpg |
I'm riding the couch as I have since I developed the worst hacking cough on Monday;-( It was a rest week in my training cycle but I did need to actually do some level 2 hours......hope this clears up today and I can ride tomorrow.

Rode the "Old Dennis" 220k permanent out west of Fort Worth with several friends from the local randonneur club. A windy day, and the wind shifted to give us a headwind about 3/4 of the way, on a hilly route. One rider broke a shift cable, so an hour or so was spent repairing it (fortunately, one of the other riders had both the cable and the knowledge to do so!). I worked hard and am tired now.
With any luck, I will get a 1,000 miles in this month for the first time ever...got several more days to do it, yet. |
Did 35 miles today in 30 degree weather with 13mph winds and snow flurries. Good base miles. Tomorrow is a repeat, ride and weather-wise.

Sunday - 53.3 km on the tandem out to Eildon and back. It was a lovely day today ... perfect riding weather. Sunny, 21C, and no wind to speak of. I wore a light jacket at first, but took it off about 3/4 of the way through the ride because I was overheating.
The trees are just beginning to turn. The evergreens (like the Eucalyptus and several other native trees) remain green all winter while the imported northern hemisphere trees lose their leaves in winter. The result, at this time of year, is quite effective --lots of trees with green leaves and several trees turning gold and red. I knocked out 65.5 miles yesterday with a very healthy climb early in the ride. Temps in the 20s when I started but up to the 40s by the end. Was planning on around another 50 today but Mother Nature has dropped at least 3 more inches of snow on us and it's still coming down. Well probably do around 20 miles on the winter bike now if the roads are safe by this afternoon. Otherwise this will be my rest day for the week.

50 up the coast, in a light drizzle, yesterday morning.
|
I did 80km with about 1000m total vertical yesterday, around the Boulder CO front range. Cold in the upper elevations, especially when the sun went behind the clouds, and the hills. Took a while to thaw out. But had a great ride. Very promising.

^^^ Coolest fence ever!
I had a great weekend. I took half of Friday off b/c the forecasters said Saturday's weather was going to be bad. I climbed a local pretty-hard climb (55 miles/5200'). Then the forecasters were wrong in the right direction for once, so Saturday I did a bunch of other local climbs, for 45 miles/6000', ouch. Today I did a 40 mile recovery ride with some long lost girlfriends and then worked all afternoon to make up for Friday. |
As we had freezing rain and snow here (yet again), I spent too long on the trainer (yet again).

Luckily none of that today in Chicago, but I did come across a patch of ice taking a turn. If that doesn't make an ass pucker I don't know what will. There was 1 road I traveled today for about a mile, no one else, and left a nice little line in the dusting of snow :)
