Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thumbs Up for Bike Tires Direct

I recently bought a set of Schwalbe Durano Plus tires for the Road Rocket. After properly installing them, by hand without tools, within 20 miles, both tires developed a bulge in the tread. The sidewalls were fine. If the tires are so fragile that a 60-something guy can damage them with his bare hands, they are TOO fragile!

I sent them back to BTD, including the spare, QUICKLY received full credit, and a phone call to let me know they were going to take care of me. I went back to my tried and true Vittoria 700X25 and bought enough for several seasons of riding.

Hats off to Bike Tires Direct, and guess where I buy all my tires, tubes, and other goodies?

Great service from them for me too, and I live all the way in India. They were fantastic.

Love the 'cash back' concept too. You keep going back. With what I saved on my Force groupset [already discounted], I'm knocking off 110 dollars on my Garmin :-)

I like them too. Fast service and good prices. I wish they still had Vredestein Moire tires but those tires are simply unavailable in the US now. Not their fault.

Sounds like good service which is a good thing, but I found their prices on tires I'm interested in to be significantly higher than what I can get them for on Amazon. Case in point, gp4000s at BTD are $64 and I just got them from Amazon for $40.

Their store is only a few miles from my house, I use them all the time. They are very nice in person too. I usually order on line and go over and it's waiting for me already in a bag. No sales tax here on Oregon too.

PBK? Please, do tell us (me) the full name of PBK. It sounds like a great place for good buys.

Thanks.

ProBikeKit.com. They're located in the UK but can usually get shipments to anywhere in the USA within a week or so. They run specials on GP4000S and ProRace3's a few times a year. I just picked up a pair - delivered - with the currency conversion charge - for something like $67. It's my fourth order from them and I've never had a problem.

I'll add to hijacking of this thread and give another recommendation for PBK. Ordered 2 sets of gp4000's during their recent sale.

Yeah, I want to apologize for that. This thread was about excellent service from Bike Tires Direct, not about how cheap PBK is. My bad.

I did just take a look at the Bike Tires Direct site for new tires for my touring bike. I think I'll use them!

Yep, no problems with BTD or PBK. Bought a real nice top-o-the line Rudy Project helmet from them last year. Great Helmet. Love it.

Was commenting on their great service. Yes, of course prices there on some items are way higher than UK online retailers, especially tyres. But lots of things are great deals too especially when they have a sale, and you factor in the cash back.

They're a great place to order from. I've been in their store when I was out in Portland and the owner was in there working on a Saturday, he's a real nice guy too.

Not today. $47 or $72 for a twin pack (sold out). Even with the twin pack, the credit card fees would make it about the same.

As a matter of fact, I have shopped around. Some places have sales, which makes products cheaper for a time, and some places have lower prices on some brands. If you use those brands, good deal. The products I use are a good deal at BTD. Between convenience, price, and bonus points that gets them return business, they are a good company to deal with.

The last time I ordered from Amazon, I got the wrong product sent and had to pay return shipping to a vendor.

BikeTiresDirect has a solid reputation for great customer service. Never been wronged by them, but Schwalbe is sure having some QC problems. This must be the 3rd of 4th post this month about bad sidewalls.

Or 18 days based on my last delivery that just arrived yesterday and 30 plus days around the holidays. Biketiresdirect arrives next day for me so when I need it in less than a month they can be a great option.

I haven't bought from them in a few years now, but my experience with them was mostly good. The very first order I placed with them was for some 700x34 cyclocross tubulars I was going to put on a Cannondale touring bike for use on a crushed limestone rail-to-trail. The 34's were too wide for my frame and they were perfectly agreeable to exchanging them for some 700x32's. When the 32's arrived one tire was fine, the other was what I would call a 24 inch x 32 width. The manufacturer didn't list this size, BTD didn't list this size, the stamp on the sidewall said 700x32, but it was very definitely a 24 inch size. When I called about returning it I got some arguement and annoying tone of voice trying to convince me that size didn't exist and I had to be wrong, even though I was holding it in my hand. I returned it, they replaced it, I never heard more from them about it. I think the tire was some freak mistake that somehow escaped from the factory. All my other orders from them were well priced, correct and quick.
