Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Handlebar comfort

I'm new to cycling and I'm doing a few updates on an old Trek 400 roadbike. I just bought an adjustable quill stem and some cork bar tape from my LBS. I was looking for gel tape but they didn't have any in stock. Will the cork tape be enough for comfort
or will I need to add something under the tape. Since I'm new to cycling I just want
to get me some comfort out of this bike and see if I will stick with it. If I like road cycling I will later upgrade to a better bike. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

cork tape is plenty fine - especially if you wear gloves. I forget my gloves quit often and am ok on 3 hr rides

Thanks, I'll probably just put on the cork then. I know it will be alot simpler that way. I do wear gloves but want to get some better gloves with gel padding. While at the LBS today, they had a Cannondale Synapse that was
mt size, attached to a trainer and I got on it and LOVED IT!!!! The price was $1349 I believe. I will ride the old bike for now. I just wanted to share.
