Buying first road bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Buying first road bike

Long story short, I like this route: just over 40 miles round trip.

It's pain to do this on my mountain bike (I am using slick tires), especially if your friends use road bikes. So I am looking to upgrade at this point.

Local REI has 20% off on Novara bikes, and hence I am choosing between slightly more expensive Novara Strada and Cannondale Synapse 7.

Both bikes have aluminum frame with carbon fork, with Novara using Shimano 105 group and Cannondale using Shimano Sora. Both have modern shaped frames that have curves in right places to smooth out the ride.

With 20% off deal the price between the two is compatible, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yup, for about $100 bucks more I would go
with the 105 equipped Novara. Does REI
offer road tests? If they do, take both for
a spin.
