If you want a good seat go to performance bike they have some insane deals on fizik
|
This is a great thread . Are you going to install all parts yourself ?

Bad ass builds, both of them! :)
|
Thanks guys! Appreciate all the comments :)
I'll check out performance again. To be honest I don't frequent them much since they're pretty overpriced compared to jenson, excel, ediscountbike, etc....but I have been looking at some red fiziks..ill check performance since you mentioned it though. As for install, LBS charges $50 to put a bike together, I figure by the time I pick up a few tools and this that and the other ill be at almost $50 anyway. I also have a tendency to rush when I get frustrated and I really don't want to do that with a carbon frame. The LBS guys are great, I try to give them as much business as I can unless I find killer deals online. |
Only $50?
When I was still working at a shop (now I'm more of a freelance bird), we charged $150 to build a bike. |
Just ordered this bad boy:
https://www.performancebike.com/imag...-WHI-ANGLE.jpg If all goes well, hopefully it comes in Friday with bars/stem :) |
If I were you....let the bike shop put the bike together, but be there when they are doing it so you can learn.

Go to tattoo shop. Have duplicate chain ring tattoo'ed right there :)
|
Not the most exciting update ever, but I picked these up from Jensen yesterday (local pickup saves on shipping FTW lol)
Easton EA90 stem and EA70 Ergo Bars http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...408_081434.jpg If anyone's interested, Jenson has 'em both for a steal right now. Colors subtly match the entire scheme I'm going for so I'm happy about that. Fizik Arione should be coming in today or tomorrow, I'll post pics of that when I seem them after work :) |

Just checked out the 3.0SLs....which because of the terrain as I mentioned above is definitely the better choice, however I am wondering if the extra money is worth the jump from the regular expert to the SL, durability also being a concern seeing as how even the soul website mentions it is lower due to the thinner spokes...any thoughts on this?
And also while I'm at it, any suggestions for a similar wheel quality/price that can be had w/o the long wait?...trying to check out all avenues before making a decision. |
Here's another little update. This thing took a while to get here because Performance ships with FedEx Smartpost....lol I even started a thread seeing if anyone could explain how their whole system works. Anyway, it's here now.
Fizik Arione Some of you may have bought one of these before and will know what I'm talking about, but for those who haven't I gotta say that the packaging on this thing is top notch! It looks and feels like you're about to open a big ass iPod (iPad? lol) Even the spots denoting the color on the outside of the box are filled in with actual material and not written or colored in. http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...417_114350.jpg The box itself looks good and has a nice slide off sleeve design. http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...417_115027.jpg Inside, the saddle is well packaged and has a protective bag over it. The whole set up just looks great. It was just fun to open. http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...417_114431.jpg Fizik gives you matching bar tape and finishing tape as well as end plugs which I though was really cool. http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...417_114716.jpg I got a good deal on this thing, but if I was to pay full retail which is somewhere around $180 - $200, I would expect such high quality delivery. So that's down, as of now just waiting on Soul S4.0s to get here. Ordered them a couple days ago so I figure it'll be a couple weeks until they get here. I'll be sitting tight and trying to make up some of the money spent on the wheels lol. As it sits now all I need is a cassette, chain, and pedals. I'll order those after the wheels get here and hopefully be all set pretty soon here :) |
Wheels came in last night:
Pics aren't great, I was in a hurry after work last night but here they are. Here's the box they come shipped in: http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...6_194102-1.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...6_194131-2.jpg Here they are put on the frame to get an idea: http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...426_194935.jpg Quick shot of the hubs: http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...426_195431.jpg Skewers are Soul branded on both the release and the turn knob which I liked...gives it a nice "not-cheap" feel for lack of a better term. http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...426_195750.jpg I'm excited these things are finally here. They made it through customs just fine. Had a small rip in the box but nothing too bad. The wheels themselves look great and have a real nice sound when they spin. Pedals should be here this Friday and I'll order cassette and chain then. So the whole thing should be done and put together within the next 2 or three weeks :) |
Building bikes is a lot of fun, I built up my Ridley which was my first one and would definitely do it again. I was intimidated at first because I didn't want to mess anything up but with the help of the instruction manuals and YouTube I got the job done.
|
So far looks awesome and fun. I just love the box the wheels came in: "Fragile. If damaged customers get pissed!". :D Priceless.
|
Looks really good. Keep the pics coming!
|
That's going to be ten kinds of swanky when you get it finished.
|
Looks great and thanks for reminding me to get on my own build. I love those Soul Wheels.
