Sitting Crooked on the Saddle
I was wondering if it's a problem if someone sits crooked on the saddle? Do loose power and comfort from being crooked? I happen to sit a little on the funky side after breaking my pelvis and one of my friends noticed that I sit turned about 5-8 degrees. I get cheap Retul bike fits, so I think I'm going to go in and see what's up, but does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks! |
I'm assuming your title should say "crooked" not "cooked?" :)
I'll fix it for you. To your question: Setting the saddle straight ahead is the default but if you have physical issues that make it work better off center then do what works. I'd think too far off center would cause serious problems with rubbing against the thighs whilst pedaling but a small adjustment shouldn't be a problem. |
Was fixed (the title) while I was typing. :)

I actually read an article on line (don't remember where). But they suggested pointing the tip of the saddle one or two degrees off center. It helps protect soft tissue, as well as adds to riding comfort. I am a little too OCD to do it myself though.
But what I did do was try to ride just just off center on the saddle. It really did help. Normally have to move around a bit to get "stuff" comfortable. |

Yup...the Cobb article. If you had an issue with your pelvis and saddle rotation helps you ride without discomfort, by all means keep riding that way.
Good Luck...saddle comfort is hit and miss for most of us and go with what works. PS: I have heard of others that rotate their saddle as personal preference but I have never seen it formally endorsed like Cobb does on his website which I referenced in another thread. Cobb is a thoughtful guy who has created his own saddle line and done probably thousands of fits and knows his stuff so I would say his suggestion has merit. |
I've got an update, I had a Retul fit yesterday and we figured some of it out, but I sort of stumped the fitter. I do not have a leg length issues, but the way I sit on the saddle, I am creating one. We considered putting a lift in my "short" leg, but, seeing as I don't actually have a difference in length, he thought this would probably accentuate the problem. So, he got one side to look pretty good (the right side) and decided to leave it the way it was and suggested I go get some physical therapy to see if they can work something out.
Anyone else have some ideas? |
