Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Klein Aura vs Quantum

How much better is a Quantum than an Aura? My bike shop owner tells me that the 'effective' geometry is the same as a quantum for an aura though it is a compact design, and the the compact designs makes it a better climber because it is stiffer. I also emailed Klein and they said a Quantum is 'unquestionably better' for racing than an Aura. Can someone tell why a Quantum would be better than an Aura if they had similiar components and fork? What exactly makes the Quantum better suited for racing than the Aura?

Thanks.
Andrew.

andrew, I'm thought I'd bring this back up to top. This week i'm buying a new frameset and have line on a NOS Quantum framset for $680. I did a little checking on Kleins website and found the primary difference is the fork rake. Although I couldnt find the Aura geometry if you compare the Quantum with the Reve you'll see that match very closely. The Quantun is 54cm where as the reve is 55cm so for all intents and purposes the dimensions are the same except for fork rake and trail.
Rake: Angle of fork blades in relation to steerer tube measred in mm at fork tip
Quantum rake: 41mm
Reve rake : 48mm

These two figures lead to trails of (larger number=tighter/more upright fork)
Trail: Disatance between imaginary lines, one following headtube and one dropping straight down through front axle.
Quantum: 61mm
Reve: 49mm

Both frames have 73.5 degree headtube angles.
Basicaly the Quantum is better race bike becasue it has more trail.
