Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SPD Compatible Casual Shoes

I'm looking for a pair of inexpensive SPD shoes that I can use for my SPD pedal in my Trek 470 and also for school. I have a 12R/46R size. I already have Lake I/O Boa but it's white so dirt is more noticeable. So it would be better if it's dark-colored or somewhat stain-resistant (if somethin' does exist). Anyone?

I have Specialized Taho mountain biking shows. They're pretty innocuous--look like slightly unfashionable black sneakers, and I use them casually around town and stuff pretty often. They ride OK, but they're my first cycling shoes so I don't have a lot of reference. They're very walkable, aside from some slight cleat contact on hard surfaces. Can do short hikes off the bike for example.

I kind of want the Keen Austin Pedal shoes. They look pretty good. Keen also does a pseudo-Chuck Taylor, although I found it kind of uncomfortable when I tried it on in the store.

I have those and they are great. They run small, though.

I've worn Shimano BMX shoes for years.

Chrome just came out with an SPD shoe, and Five Ten has a couple as well.

Those DZR shoes look great. I'll have to check them out the next time I have some free time in San Francisco (the nearest dealer is Mission Workshop in San Francisco).
