Presta Valva Extensions and Washers or Tape?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Presta Valva Extensions and Washers or Tape?

I got some little washers with my Cosmic Carbons to use with the valve extender. They have to be used or the air leaks out when pumping up the tires.

I seriously cannot imagine keeping up with the little washers if I have to change a tube on the road, so I've now read that you can use teflon tape of the threads of the presta valve. Is this true? Does it work?

Anyone else have any other suggestions? What do you use with your valve extensions?

sorry for the newb question, but this is my first set of deep dish wheels.

Just get tubes with long enough valve stems. Continental makes up to a 60mm and QBP has their Q tubes which are 80mm

Thats a great suggestion, but I have an entire box of tubes I bought in bulk that are too short, so using the valve extensions are the cheaper route for now, until I use up these tubes anyway.

I use these, you pull the valve core, insert it in the extender, and the extender makes an airtight seal with the existing stem. I carry a couple spares and the tool.

I just use teflon tape.

My spare tube is already set up with another valve extender installed on it so I don't have to teflon tape anything out on the road.

Yes, teflon tape works. That is what I used when I ran tubulars (long stems wasn't an option) and it worked just fine. It is a pain in the butt though so make sure you put it on your spare tubes while at home and not when out on the road.

Just buy a couple of these in the right length, and you are good to go.
