need your opinion....
Hey Guys just wanted your opinion....
The Road bike is ready to be picked up sometime next week. This will be my first road bike after having a hybrid for years. I never really had alot of experience with a road bike yet aside from doing some test rides when i was shopping for one. My questions is with regards to pedals. I never tried clipless pedals and i was wondering if it would be best to start with a regular pedal first on the road bike since im new to road biking as well or go with clipless already. If i get fitted with a regular pedal and change to clipless ill have to get fitted again? Let me know what you guys think... looking forward to your replies. |
Just go clipless. It's not as bad as some make it sound. Actually, it's not bad at all.

just go clipless. Changing pedals does change your fit because the cleat makes different pedals have a different stack so your seat height would change a little. Be very receptive to feelings when you use clipless for the first time, the LBS can only set them up so much so if something doesnt quite feel right its best to take it seriously and work out why before you cause a problem.
For road riding clipless pedals are far superior to standard pedals |
Do clipless.
I had ridden thousands of miles in clip pedals 20 years ago in college and started up road biking again a little over a year ago. I started with clipless (SPD-SL) right away. I recall sitting in the doorway trying to clip in and clip out and telling my wife that no way was this gonna work out. I can still vividly recall riding up to our gate and frantically wrenching my ankle to get that first clip undone. Well now it's been 7457 miles and I've never been down. It becomes second nature and I never even think about it anymore. In fact just yesterday I pulled myself out of a jam between a cement truck and a pickup that converged in my lane and brought me to a complete unexpected stop and I just yanked my foot out in no time. I think people make a lot more of it than it's worth. |
