Random Tube Burst???
 

So im sitting in my room and boom my tube blows. About a 2mm hole in it right next to the valve stem.

I replace the tube check for debris pump it back up and go for a ride the next morning. Only 10mi ride so nothing crazy.

Later that night as my bike is sitting in my room boom again. The same thing. Same size puncture/rip, same spot.

I cant figure out what this could be since it is on the rim side of the tube, and nothing but the rim liner is touching the tube. No debris nothing sharp just random tube blowings when the bike is sitting on the floor.

Any suggestions, suspicions?

Are you sure the tube isn't touching a rim weld or spoke hole? I had a similar issue where the rim weld was actually slightly going through my rim tape resulting in random blowouts. Have you felt the rim strip at the location of the hole?

Had same problem. Scared the **** out of me the first time it happened.

I replaced the rim strip with something a little thicker. Previously I was using one of those ultra light strips. Hasn't happened since.

Take one of the old tubes, Chop out the valve stem section and pull out the valve stem and stick it over the valve stem of your new tube. New rim tape would probably work too, but this is an easy fix.

I think a black hole is starting to open up in your living room and the changes in gravity are to blame. But that's just my 2C worth.

Check to make sure you aren't over-tightening the little knurled nut that goes on the valve stem. Too much tension when the tire is inflated will tear the base of the valve stem where it attaches to the tube. How do I know? Been there, done that before.

If it pops with a bang, it usually means the tube got pinched between the tire bead and rim. Punctures (from the rim strip or otherwise) don't go with a bang.

Yup ...... gotta check that before pumping up to full pressure.

Push the stem in before you inflate and the nut causes more problems than it solves unless you have a deep rim.

If you are using rim strips rather than cloth tape, the tube can be working away either around or through a hole/cut in the strip and causing it to blow

Another tricky one is small pieces of truck tire wire beads (road debris) getting imbedded in tire. Rub cotton ball across inside of tire at source of blow outs and look for snags. Same problem can arise from glass shards and shards of animal bone. Yes, I've had all of these happen.
