7 days to go untill the big 50 mile ride.

I have been training for this ride since the start of February. I did have a week I could not ride due to illness- and another 4 or 5 day run where I couldn't ride due to another illness. This week my bike was in the shop for 5 days. But all in all I think I am ready.
The ride is put on by the san louis obispo bike club, and is called the wildflower ride. You know the type- catered rest stops and lunch after the ride. Usualy about 500 riders attend this event. The riders have a choice of three routes. A 1oo mile, a 64 mile and a 50 mile route. I did the 100 mile route about 5 years ago(when I was in shape) but this year I think the 50 mile will give me all the challange I can take. Wish me luck.

GO for it. Just take it easy out of the gate and then have fun... Looking forward to our metric century very soon.

Good luck.

Good luck man! Next Saturday I am doing the Cruising the Conejo ride and the following day I am doing the Tour de Cure ride in Long Beach...YAY!!!!

If you've been training for it, you'll do fine. Even if you haven't ridden 50 miles lately, just watch your pace, don't get caught up in a fast group and enjoy the heck out of it.

Oh...and good luck.

it would also be "corrected due to"...

err, and signature.

err, and good luck on your ride. You'll do great.

I did my first 50 miler about a month ago and that was after I just started riding about six weeks earlier. Almost every downhill was met with some strong head winds (even the advanced riders were complaining) but I finished in just under four hours. Timing wasn't good but at least I wasn't the last to finished. It felt empowering to do a ride that long. Good luck.

did 45 yesterday with 4092 feet of climbing and I'm not in top shape yet either. dont know how flat your ride will be, but you can knock it out!! Rock that 50!!

GL. Agreed to not get caught up in going out too hard. Enjoy!

thcri 04-24-11 11:16 AM

I did 50 yesterday with a group. I think it was a tad bit much for this old man. I have to do 60 in three weeks for the Tour De Cure. The tour will be more on my schedule and I can handle that a lot better.

rumrunn6 04-24-11 12:04 PM

post pics after the ride - maybe some now of your bike and gear. whatcha gonna wear?

patentcad 04-24-11 12:07 PM

I think it is only appropriate that anyone with a right wing bias is oblivious to the fact that this phrase is actually two words, not one.

Carry on.

patentcad 04-24-11 12:11 PM

I should also point out that to a liberal Democrat, 50 miles should really be expressed as 80.46 kilometers.

But I can't go there.

ghughes20 04-24-11 12:35 PM

Good Luck and have fun. I'm just starting out, but my plan is to do a 50 in September and a century next spring. (Will need to train through the winter for that one).

I'd love to hear your training schedule. (PM if interested in sharing).

Santaria 04-24-11 01:40 PM

Good luck man! Due to your signature, I think you're in for more comments about it than your political inclinations:p

I did my first 50 last week and thinking it might be somewhat "epic" I backed off my normal pace a bit. However, ride data showed only minimal change from my "normal" 25-30 mile rides. In other words, I don't know that I backed off as much as I thought but that small change may have been enough. I did the ride in just under 3 hours.

Conclusion for the OP? 50 miles isn't as big of a deal as it sounds. If you can do a 30 mile ride then ease up a bit and 50 will not be overly hard.

thedeadone 04-24-11 10:57 PM

thanks for the tips and encouragement eveybody. I will take some pics and post with a short misspelled summary of the ride.
