Road Cycling shoes cutting into my ankle bone.. ouch
So I have had my scattantes for a month or two now, but I'm beginning to hate how they cut into my ankle..
Does anyone else have this problem? The Cut is right under my big front bone.. I think it's called the "talus".. are my shoes too big/small? I just upgraded to a size 46 after being in a pair of 45's and hating them because they gave me numb toes...
I also tried wearing an extra pair of socks to cover up the area more.. but nothing helps.
Thanks for reading!

You mean it cuts into the side, just under the protrusion of the talus? Try a thicker insole or heal insert to lift your foot above rub point. I've had this happen with running shoes, but not cycling shoes.

Some shoes don't work well with some feet. These may not be the shoes for you.

You may have to do some shoe shopping. My wife got some Specializeds at the LBS. Her second toe agonized after 20 mi. For 40 mi rides, she had to stop frequently and take her shoe off.
I bought her some Sidis online from wiggle, problem solved. 40 miles, "How are you doin Hon?" "I'm really tired." "How are your feet?" "They're fine, I'm just really tired."
I ride Shimanos. My left ankle is really messed up, anybody can look at it and say, "F**k man, your ankle is UGLY." too many sprains and breaks in my young-athletic years. The Shimanoss are really comfy. I can do 50-60-100 mi days, 350+ mi weeks, the shoes are not limiting. Niice shoes.

yeah I once tried on an expensive pair of dmts where the tongue cut into my ankle, otherwise perfect fit.

To isolate the problem, first I'd try adding some really cheap Dr Scholls on top of your insole, then try riding without any insole.
If no joy, see if you can modify the shoe. Cut out the bits that rub.
They're yours, you can do whatever you want with them.
The strap on mine were cutting into whatever that tendon on top of the foot is called.
I cut an arc into the strap and cut away some of the tongue padding, and case closed.

I had the same problem with some Pearl Izumis I have, but only on my left leg. However, it went away after a few rides. I agree with Rogerstg, the shoes may break in and become more comfortable.

I think I just have "low" ankles, relatively speaking. Most of the shoes I've bought(2 out of three pairs) for the last ten years rub my ankle wrong. Solution: judicious snipping to the offending part of the shoe has worked quite well on my last two pairs(spec and PI).
