BMC out, BMC in...
So, bought my first modern road bike in a while last year (1992 was the last road bike I acquired) and landed a great deal on a BMC Road Racer from CC last Spring. Great bike, stiff, agile, loved it. A few upgrades here and there, felt fantastic!! Got it to 17.41 lbs. and was HAPPY!!
Shifting problems, brought about a realization that there was an issue with the FD mount. Frame deemed toast, sadness ensued...
CC and BMC took care of me though. Obviously no more 2009 framesets available in medium, what would happen??!??!??!??!?
They shipped me a 2011 Road Racer!! Changes to the frameset include a full carbon frame (2009 was Aluminum with Carbon Seat Stays), fork steerer is full carbon, and they made some subtle changes to the stream post which are big improvements as far as I am concerned. Took the chance to make some upgrades on the new build up.
- RED Shifters
- RED FD
- FORCE RD
- Yokozuna Cables
- KMC Chain
- Light weight TR brakes
New build up comes in at 15.76 lbs. and I have some Titanium cage bolts, Titanium chain ring bolts, and a pair of S-Works cages on the way. Should shave off a gram or two...
On that note, the new, BMC!!
Still have a few things to finalize. Need to adjust the bar angle a bit, FD and RD still need some minor tweaking and the rear brakes still need aligning. Then, red anodized cable ends will be added.
Then, getting a re-fitting since this is a 54cm, and the previous one was a 53cm. WooooHoooo!

Nice Jeepnut! I saw that bike at a LBS on Friday and coveted it.

Do you have the old frame still? I run a peer-taught elective at my school about the evolution of frame building and this would top off the frames we have (our newest one was built in 1996).

Nice replacement. Glad that BMC took care of you. Love both color schemes.

i love the look of BMC bikes. i prefer your old colors..but like the red....looking at a 2008 sl01 right now with sram rival cranks and sram force for the rest. white orange color scheme. however, i have an amazing opportunity to buy a colnago ace (which is all carbon) at an amazing cost so may do that. but looks wise i prefer the BMC.

But the new color scheme works well and I am happy again. Probably be able to get out later this week for it's maiden voyage!

Nice happy ending! CC seems to have fantastic customer service.
Also, if you know the frame geometry of your old frame and new frame, why not just do a few simple calculations to get everything dialed in exactly the same as before? It'd probably take 30-45 minutes, and it'd be free.

Rad ride. Thoughts on the Ergonovas versus the Ergosums?

Both have pretty much the same bend and drops. Shallow like I like 'em. The Ergonovas have a more oval top section vs. the Ergonosums which are round. Personally for me I like the Ergonovas better.

stole your bike
Competitive Cyclist is great at addressing issues which is why I don't hesitate purchasing bikes/frames from them. The new BMC looks great!
