Sounds like the OP needs to HTFU in a big way. Our Saturday rides are at 0600 and again at 0730; the daily morning ride during the week is at 0545. We get very happy when the temp rises to 37F in the winter. Cold riding builds character and makes you tougher.

Ride faster and you'll warmup quicker!

SAme thing here in San Diego. Nice weather in the afternoon, but at 8am it's in the 40's. Even in the summer when it's 90-100 in the afternoon it's always in the high 40's, low 50's in the morning. Not a big fan of early morning exercise.

I'm with EventServices on this one. I like to get up around 8 on weekends, eat some breakfast, linger over coffee, and head out for a ride later in the morning or early in the afternoon. I do this until it gets stupidly hot in the summer.
I like having nothing planned for my weekends except to ride my bicycle. |

I'm with you on this one too, ES.

I've been asked to go on 8am group rides at an LBS. Weekends are the one time when I can actually sleep in for a bit and 8am is just too early for me. It's a store sponsored ride so it's because the employees get a chance to participate which is fine. The other reason is that there's a lot less traffic at that time of the day.
I told them that I'll probably start with them in the summer (when I'm in town) because 8am is probably one of the best times of the day to go out. Even when I'm up at my cottage up north, I wouldn't be able to get out until 9am. |
Burning Daylight is bad. Life's short enough already.

yesterday @ 7am = 20 mph winds
yesterday @ 1pm = 30 mph winds. i like my odds better @ 7am. later. |
My Saturday group ride is at 7:30 and there is a big ride that starts at 7am.
However, I will not sneer and say HTFU to anyone as the idea of 37F sounds truly miserable (and relatively unknown) to me. :) |
I agre with the wife and kids. with the group I rode with years ago, 8AM is late. our show and go was usually 0600 and we rolled by 0610 (I know as I had to chase a few times) we had a 30 or so mile ride with a bagel/coffee stop about midway. the married people got home by 9:30 10 or earlier

It's 37 degrees this morning. Later today, it'll be in the 60s.
Why does my club insist on riding at 8am on a Saturday? Why would I not only ride when it's 20 degrees colder, but GET UP EARLY ON A SATURDAY FOR THE PRIVILEGE??? One frosty morning when it was expected to get to 55... just about as I got home and went back inside... I said: "If god had meant me to see 8am on a Saturday, he'd have made me 8 years old forever." (feel free to quote me on that). |

if you have a family or other commitments then riding in the morning might be the only time you have available. I miss the days of riding when ever I wanted to, now I still get lots of riding in but it's in the form of commutes to work and early morning weekend rides.
+1 With the commuting/training to work, it saves a lot of money [over $12/day for me] for more bike parts. |
Besides being cold in the morning, I enjoy sleeping. I get up at 6am every day. The last thing I want to do on my day off is get up early to go freeze. My wife on the other hand is up early on the weekends. Some people are morning people and some are not. I am in the "not" group. The local riding group starts about 8-8:30. If they started an hour later I'd be more likely to join them.
