After seeing myself in the reflection of a ground-floor office window while biking last week I decided to trim my armpits for the first time in my life (turning 48 in two days) - decided that long flowing pit hair hanging out behind my arms is a bit of a detractor when it comes to putting forth a good image of a cyclist, and certainly those patches of pit hair drafting along behind me don't help my speeds...

On yesterday's ride I saw three turtles crossing the road. I didn't stop to help any of them. Today I find myself wondering if they made it.

I tried a hill that's part of an upcoming ride. It's a mile long, 10% avg grade, one part ramped up to 14. I could not get up it without stopping.

1. My favorite ride of all time is a 15km loop on the MUP because my kids will ride it with me on my birthday

Everybody's too fat for this sport. I read recently that nobody in the TdF weighed more than one kilogram (2.2 lbs) per inch of height, and most are at 2 pounds. I'm 6'4", in reasonable shape, and I need to lose 85 pounds....
But my confession is that all bikes look about the same to me: Wheels on the ends, tubes in the middle; if I can't read the label I can't tell the difference.

When I didn't have a hex key that fit my seat post clamp, I didn't go buy one. I took the next size up, grabbed a hammer, and pounded the key into the bolt until it had cut a larger hole. It worked beautifully.
I think the POC Do Blade sunglasses look awesome.
I still can't post up for more than a second or two.
I am not ashamed. Except about that last one...

I joined BF to post in this thread.
I bought a $1,500 Trek bike because it was on special and the sign said it was list price $2,000 and it seemed like a good deal.
I only rode it first because my friend said it was a good idea.
I didn't look at any other bikes.
I didn't have the cash so I just put it on a credit card which will annoy me to pay off.
I scoffed at the salesman who told me I should buy a $150 light, thinking only a sucker would pay $150 for a bike light.
I bought a $30 light so I could use my rechargeable double A batteries at home and it was cheaper.
I crashed the 2nd night I rode it because I thought a curb was an entrance ramp to a bike path because the light wasn't bright enough and I couldn't tell the difference. I flipped over the handle bars and I'm pretty sure I bruised the bone in my butt because it's 3 weeks later and it still hurts a lot of the time. I think I had a mild concussion because i felt sluggish and groggy for a couple of weeks.
The day of the crash my girlfriend was happy that i bought a road bike because "it has to be safer than mtn biking." I agreed since I had crashed once mountain biking and she had to take me to the ER.
I still think I'm a reasonably intelligent person despite the above story.
The spell checker had to correct my spelling of intelligent.
I've spent more time watching cycling on USN than riding so far since I bought the bike.
I actually think I'm going to complete Ragbrai next summer. I had to look up how to spell Ragbrai.

2. I also use SPD pedals on my road bike and I like them
3. I also moo at cows and I have had them moo back
4. I think the guys here shave their legs more than I do
5. I buy my cheap jerseys on ebay and they are usually cartoons (it's the only way I can afford to have many)
6. I pretend it doesn't bother me that my bike shorts give me camel toe
7. My husband has no idea of just how much money I actually invest on my bike and gear
8. I shouldn't add this one, but I am going to. I sometimes have nookie with my husband to distract him from complaining that I am spending too much time riding and not enough time on whatever housework (or whatever job) I need to get done
He's happy and I can ride more
