Need help on a new headset please!
4 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased a new Easton EC90 SLX carbon fork. 1 1/8". this one:
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=200719 now I want to get a new headset to go with it, but I'm not sure which one will work, or will not work. Here are the two options I'm looking at: First is the Chris King threadless 1 1/8 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=200714 next is the KCNC semi integrated headset: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=200718 Then I'm looking at the at the KCNC threadless 1 1/8 headset http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=200717 I'm putting it on a 2009 CAAD9-6, taking off the original Cannondale fork, so I figured I'd replace the headset too while I'm at it. If either of these obviously will NOT work, someone please tell me!! thanks, :D RD |
The headset should fit your frame. The new fork will take any 1 1/8" headset though it's made for integrated HS and will look better on that type of frame. Check your old headset to see which HS standard your CAAD9 uses.
I don't think any of the above will work. |

I don't think any of the above will work. Now I just don't understand. I should fit my frame, but none of them will work? wut??? |
"I think" the CAAD9 uses integrated IS (Cane Creek?) standard. The headsets you posted are press fit standard cup and Zero Stack or Hidden Set. Not just any threadless headset will work. That's why I said you fit the headset to the frame because the headtube dictates what type you need.

I actually went and talked to my lbs, and they said that the integrated headset units from Cannondale on the CAAD9s are sort of, but not really proprietary. He recommended I not buy any of the above, but use the one with the fork I have, and if the bearings or anything in it needs work, they can do that.
So that's my resolution. I'll take them the fork and let them do the install with what I have if it will work. That will also safe some $$ too. |
