Is Kestrel Fuji now?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is Kestrel Fuji now?

I noticed this morning that 2011 Kestrels had Oval components which are just made by Fuji. Kestrel and Fuji are also both carried by Performance Bike (same distributor?)

ASI (I think) is the parent company of both.

Yep, Kestrel is still Kestrel and Fuji is still Fuji, but they are both owned by the same company. Kind of like Cannondale is still Cannondale and Pacific is still Pacific, just both have the same owner.

Not "made by Fuji", just owned by the same parent company.

ASI owns: oval concepts, se racing, breezer, kestrel, fuji, terry...and maybe someone else.

i still would advise against BD unless you can actually ride what they are selling, or unless you know what specific frame geometry you want.

I have a bike that I'm more than happy with. I was just wondering about the organization of the industry.

The Kestrel sold at Performance Bike is the same frames as Bikes Direct sells but different group. I think the BD Kestrel Talon road is Rival, while the bikes at Performance, which are a thousand $$ more, has 105. They also have one with Ultegra for $3k or so and in blue/grey. Beautiful bikes and very sleek. I think people will probably stop you on the street just to check them out! Very nice. A bit heavy though for a full carbon frame when compared to its peers. But then again Fuji is the same--just a bit on the heavy side when compared side by side with its rivals. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either brand.
