Pro Team Jerseys - OK to wear?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I wear plain jerseys, but a few of the regulars I cross paths with on my nightly wear team jerseys they bought online. They never have the same team on at the same time. I asked them why the team jerseys. They said the bright colors and riding in traffic, they think the more colorful and brighter the better chance there is a driver will see them. It may or may not work, but I don't care what anyone wears as long as they are riding.

some of the team kit is quite striking, graphically. Some of it is 3 bag ugly...
Personally I have some of the older stuff from the 70's and 80's which I think is quite unique in graphic design.
This yr's peleton is particularly lacking in good designs, but the racing is making up for it.
ALthough, this yr's LiquiGas is about the best iteration of their stuff. RaboBank OK, but last yrs was better.
Wear what you like, ride what you like, go where you like
do your own thing

peace out

I only have one pro team jersey. The pro team in question? The Flyers. Race-fit, to boot.

How does BF rule in this case?

My bike came with a replica yellow jersey signed by Carlos Sastre.

You mean I'm not supposed to have been wearing it?

Oops.

You can buy product jerseys. For instance, I have a few Sierra Nevada jerseys that I wear since I like their beer.

If that impression is incorrect, please feel free to enlighten me.
For me, it's just a team thing. Why would I want to wear a jersey of someone else's team ?
Maybe some of us who race have a different perspective than non-racers ?
But if it makes you feel good, then go for it.

sort of an odd assertion.

in my experience the colnago pathlete crew are the worst offenders with this kind of thing. sort of the same mindset in a lot of ways.

You should see all the posers on dirt bikes. Team graphics on their bike. Team jerseys. Clean, spotless bike.....that never seems to leave the pits.

Guess I need to trade my Quarq in for an SRM and move to an area with MUP's. Once I do that I'll start judging other riders based on what they are wearing rather than by how fast they drop me.

Never heard that term before, but it is now in my lexicon. I am amused by the sprint drills on the MUP myself. I have always wondered what would drive someone to drill it, full gas on a path where the likelihood of running into a dog, leash, elederly person or stroller is exponentially higher than being hit by a car on a road.

Please don't start fireing all kinds of stuff at me.. I'm exactly asking because I am new to the sport yet have been riding really hard and suspect that I may be onto something, thus the questioning.

Thanks.

i mean yeah at the end of the day, theres only one answer to this question: "buy what you like, wear what you like"

the other responses to this thread are opinions offered to a question asked, not unsolicited judgment, and it just amounts to what impression people get when they see other people in pro kits.

no one is judging you as a person, or even estimating your strength as a cyclist. its about fashion and presentation and (arguably) etiquette/cultural norms, and its entirely up to you how much you care about any of that. or whose norms you value and adhere to.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a team jersey. Really, noone cares what your wearing when your ride. If you do have a strong opinion about other cyclists on the road who are wearing a team kit that does not belong to them, then you need to STFU and HTFU.

Well, understanding what the clothes SAY to other people may help.

Just because they sell thigh high boots, 3" skirts and crop tops... do you want your daughter going out wearing them? ;-)

Honestly, pro kit is seen, by certain smug elitist types, as fredly. Ironically, they also think regular bike clothes are fredly, and nothing but a club or team kit will do, so really, you have nothing to lose here.
