Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Williamsburg Bridge.

somewhere under all the glorious NYC urban decay there is the official sign for the Williamsburg Bridge.

People watching usually consists of the ubiquitous hipster on a fixie or hasidic jew couple walking a baby stroller... but sometimes you'll see something really cool:

from the looks of it its a practical low rider too. it has a huge cassette and runs a disc break. this guy had no problem climbing up from the manhattan side.

Make no mistake though... the brooklyn bridge maybe crammed full of tourists, but the manhattan/williamsburg/queensboro bridges belong to new yorkers who commute by bike or foot.

In my picture on the first post of this thread, that is where I was headed. Unfortunately, they had already taken the costume off.

I have sworn to the Almighty more than once during group rides that spit me out the back that I was going to buy one of those and just hang out at the damned beach with some baggy shorts and a beer.

It was beneath E470 as I was leaving Meridian to the north. He wasn't bathing though - he had recently passed. I stretched him out to see how long he was then decided to snap the pic as I waited for my buddy to finish a social/cool-down lap.

Sacramento in the distant background. My regular training ride with lots of hills! Climbs hitting 14% grade, flying downhill is a blast!

Well yeah. Just having enough time to get kitted up and put air in the tires was a luxury.

This is a more common ride scenery for me lately.
