Where do you put your sunglasses when you remove them during riding on the move?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where do you put your sunglasses when you remove them during riding on the move?

I have a recurrent problem on the bike that I'm sure many share. I often do hard hill climbs that have me going near-max for a good 30+ minutes, and more often than not, my sweat is coming down in waves. To the point that my sunglasses get completely covered in sweat. It doesn't matter what kind of antifog is on there - it's going to get wet, and stay wet, and then you get the hazy film buildup when it dries on the descent, which limits vision.

I've been trying to stash the sunglasses on the climbs in my back pocket, which works fairly well, but I often have enough stuff back there that I'm afraid they'll fall out.

I also tried putting them up on my helmet, but for some reason, both my helmets don't seem to work like that (the glasses don't stay in the vents at all - fall right out.)

Any other suggestions? I'd need them to be accessible to put back on without a dismount.

I usually stick them on the collar at the back of my jersey. I put one ear stem inside the jersey, then fold it over so that the glasses are resting outside of my jersey, at the base of my neck. They're reasonably secure, there's minimal handling of the glasses, so I'm less likely to get fingerprints on the lenses, and I won't sweat on them while climbing.

As far as managing sweat is concerned, a Halo headband works wonders. I wish I had one when I used to race.

I do not take mine off very often, but when I do, I put them in the front vents of my helmet. They hold very scecurely.

I have never had anything remotely like that problem.

Prolly means I'm not working hard enough.

I hang them on my left nipple like everyone else.

Right nip's for the ipod.

Small frame pump in the buttcrack.

I thought this was all common knowledge?

If I don't have room in my jersey and don't have my hair in pigtails I put them upside down on the back of my head, under my helmet.

ha.... pros get free sunglasses when they fall out of those vents and get run over.

I carry a dry cloth wipe in a waterproof pocket and clean my sunglasses when I get to the top. If it's in a race, dousing with water and wiping with a dry-ish part of my jersey works well enough...

that's why the ability to secure you sunglasses in the vents is quite important to me when selecting helmets

i did this in a race a few weeks ago. foggy, glasses fogged up, took them off and put them in my back pocket. pulled a gu out of the same pocket later in the race and lost the glasses. got really lucky, though - no one ran over them, someone (rider or support) picked them up, and i got them back after.

i've tried putting them in my helmet, but the vent spacing just doesn't seem like it keeps them very secure, so i'm afraid they'll fall out there, too. interested to hear what others do.

Alas , I can easily overcome the sweat capacity of a Halo within 10 minutes of hard effort, and the SweatGUTR, while it's my preferred tool for running (works amazingly well in the upright position) it doesn't work well at all for cycling since the sweat goes right out the center of the gutter when your head is tilted forward.

I guess I go pretty hard on my hard days. I sweat so much on a trainer that I've had to pour out 2 entire cups of sweat (for real) out of my Cycleops riser block (i have the big round one) after 2.5 hrs on it.

I can't securely holster any of my sunglasses into the front vents on either of my helmets. The back vents though, no problem. As an added bonus, I can feel the ear pieces against my head so if they ever did start slipping I would know.

I put mine upside down in the helmet like Basso and most other pro cyclists. No, they don't fall out. But I've only been doing this for about 70,000 road miles, so maybe the jury is still out on this technique.

get some oakleys with the hydrophobic coating. my livestrong flak jackets have it, you apply it yourself. havent got to wear them on a ride yet but it probably works well.

Try a combination of hydrophobic lenses, halo head band, and some antiperspirant on your forehead. Works for me down here in the heat of hell.

i believe there was a previous ruling in which the jury found that they stay in for 70,010 miles. so watch out on your next ride.

also, i'd imagine it depends on the helmet. maybe they should come up with an industry standard helmet vent spacing.

i have flak jackets with hydrophobic lenses and they still fog up in certain conditions, e.g. if it's cool out and i'm working really hard.
