Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Put Ritchey Classic handlebars on to complete the retro look. Only Carbon part left is the forks.

I also had a bike coupled by Bilenky. The couplers add a small amount to the length of each tube, so Bilenky removes a precise amount of any tube that is coupled, in order to preserve the original frame dimensions. The ride is unchanged, as far as I can tell.

The couplers also seem to be very strong, so that when they are connected properly, I never worry about them coming apart. They come with a little wrench for tightening them, and I always pay careful attention to that process, to be sure that they are securely connected. Overall, it's pretty quick and easy to couple and uncouple them though.

You also want to get quick-disconnect couplers for your cables, so that adjustments don't have to be redone every time.

To the OP: Awesome job!

Very pretty. I don't think I've seen a Regal in brown before, but it looks great.

Old thread but classy bike.

Couplers - a friend that has bikes with and without couplers (two Spectrum Ti frames, i.e. custom geometry Merlins), said that the couplers stiffened up his frames considerably.

Also you can put more than just two couplers. To wit: Leonard Zinn's 5 coupler travel bike:

From what I can tell it looks like he doesn't have to adjust anything except seat height.

Cool idea, using more couplers to get a smaller package. It's hard to tell in that pic, but in the middle of the top tube, see that small black cylinder? I suspect it is one of the quick-disconnects I mentioned, for the rear brake cable in this case.

I can't tell any difference in the ride. The S&S couplers add a bit under a pound, and they are supposed to be stiffer than the portion of tube the replace.
