iPhone mount

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

iPhone mount

I am getting my 1st road bike, a CAAD9, and I am looking for a mount for my iPhone. I have seen a couple on Amazon and I was wondering what the best one would be.

Anyone have thoughts on or experience with this one?

Satechi SCR-69 https://amzn.to/mp3tAg

It looks like a good one, but it only has 4 reviews...

TIA

I'm not familiar with that one but I use the Ibera https://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Holster...sr=1-1-catcorr

Works great for me. I wanted something low profile with some protection for the phone.

I like the looks of the second one much better than the first. I have one similar to the first one and found it to stick up WAY too high. In fact I won't be using it again even though I modified it to bring the holder closer to the bar mount.

You have a CAAD9 and you're going to mount your iPhone on it?

That's like having a Ferrari and pulling a trailer. It can be done, but, uh......

I don't think the iPhone is any larger or heavier than those giant Garmin computers, right?

My iPhone4 is over twice as large as my Garmin Edge 500. BIG difference.

But your carrying garmin + phone.

He's got phone alone, I think his method of weight weenism wins.

I prefer my tiny and simple Strada Wireless. I do carry my iPhone in a jersey pocket though.

My Edge 500 mounts easily and with a low profile on my stem. It gives me cadence, heart rate, elevation, and a number of other statistics that I use to track my progress.

My iPhone4 sits in a form fitting case in my middle jersey pocket. I wouldn't want it on some massive mount sticking up on my CAAD9. It's not the weight thing for me - if it was I'd lose the 35 pounds I need to get down to 150 to be good at this sport - it's just that the iPhone is really cumbersome relative to the Edge 500 and its mount and size would never work for me on the front of my go-fast bike. I might be inclined to use it on my touring bike. Maybe.

Some of the reviews say the mount is cheap, and it fell off some dude's bike and broke his iphone.

I do like the low profile of the Ibera, but I wish they had better images. @bikeEMT how well does it hold the phone in?

@Accordian - "trailer on Ferrari", that's funny, but I do have a good reason. I am entering in my first Triathlon and I have never ridden competitively. I plan on using an app I have called RunKeeper to help me train for it. It's also good for general GPS, and not a bad idea to have phone with you too. ; )

Thanks for all the feedback.

The phone is really secure. I use it ~30 miles a day for a commute and I'm pretty hard on things. I just make sure it clicks in when I snap it together and its pretty a solid. It would likely pop off in a direct hit in a crash but I haven't seen much that would protect it at that point. Right now it is the bike computer on my commuter.

I can take some better pics if there is any specific angle or anything anyone wants to see. I have it laying down right on top of my stem and it isn't bad.

It is larger than one of the Garmin edge computers.

Thanks for the feedback, I wouldn't mind seeing the face of it with an iPhone/iPod (or Garmin) attached if that's possible..

Carry a map. Weighs less....probably more accurate. +1 on the tiny Strada. Mine weighs in at 16 grams. The piece of paper a map is on....5 grams. They'll still work when the world ends on Saturday too by the way.

sorry this took a bit longer. I wasn't thinking about the fact that my iPhone is my camera.

I took 4 pics. Sorry if they are too many. Just figured while I was at it I'd give you a few shots.
