Cassette spacing question

My new bike has a Rival mid-cage RD and a SRAM 1070 11-32 10 speed cassette. Shifting is great.

My old bike has a PT Psimet wheel set with an IRD 10 speed Shimano 11-34 cassette. I'd like to use this wheel set without having to move the cassette or buy a new one.

When I moved the old wheel to the new bike, it shifted terribly. It would basically sit on top of the cogs. I never even got it anywhere near the 34 cog.

So, shouldn't it shift fine with the old wheel without any adjustment? They are both ten speed Shimano cassettes so I thought that shifting should be fine in at least the eight smallest cogs.

Is the width different in these two cassettes? Is the spacing different? Does the actual wheel make a difference?

Thanks for your help.

cassettes are fine. probably a small difference in distance to where the cassette sits in relation to the main axis of the bike. that is why rear derailleurs have four ways to adjust.

also if your chain was adjusted for the 32 without extra overhead, the 34 might be too much for it.

Thanks. So, if I bought another SRAM 11-32 or if I moved the 11-32 to the old wheel, I'd have to adjust the RD each time I changed wheels? Sounds like a pain.
